Exynos 1380

Samsung decided to retreat from the flagship segment with its Exynos lineup. After the “Exynos 2200 disaster” the company opted for a deal with Qualcomm for an exclusive Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy chipset. The company’s in-house flagship CPUs are set to return in the future, perhaps with the Galaxy S25 series, but for now, the company will focus on the mid-range segment. Yes, there are still Exynos chips for mid-range phones. Today, the company presented the Exynos 1380 which is rumored to equip the Samsung Galaxy A54.

Samsung Exynos 1380 specifications

The new Exynos 1380 comes to succeed the Exynos 1280 from last year. Unfortunately, this is not the biggest improvement and the chip still sticks with the ARMv8 architecture. There is support for UFS 3.1 storage and a new AI engine. It can handle Full HD+ resolution with up to 144 Hz refresh rate. To make room for more devices with its ISOCELL HP shooters, Samsung enabled support for 200 MP primary cameras.

Looking at the technical specs, the Exynos 1380 is fabbed on Samsung’s 5nm EUV process. It uses the ARMv8 core standard and has 4 x ARM Cortex-A78 cores clocked at up to 2.4 GHz. On the efficiency side, there are 4 x ARM Cortex-A55 cores clocked at up to 2.0 GHz. There is a Mali-G68 MP5 GPU that will handle the graphical tasks. The new AI Engine with Neural Processing Unit offers 4.9 TOPS (Trillion Operations per Second). It supports LPDDR4X or LPDDR5 RAM modules.

Samsung Exynos 1380

On the connectivity side, the Exynos 1380 comes with a 5G modem with support for both mmWave and sub-6GHz networks. The chip can also handle dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and GPS with Galileo, BeiDou, and Glonass support.

As we’ve stated before, the Samsung Exynos 1380 will debut with the Samsung Galaxy A54 smartphone. This year, there won’t be a Galaxy A74, so the A54 will likely be the only one with it coming in the Q1 of 2023. However, we expect other phones from Samsung to get it soon. We don’t expect many if any, third-party brands to pick this chipset. So far, Vivo is the only brand that uses Exynos chips on some of its phones.
