Chinese EV maker JAC pairs with HiNa to demonstrate sodium-ion battery in electric vehicle

HiNa Battery and JAC Group jointly displayed a five-seater electric vehicle (EV) powered by na-ion batteries (NIBs) at the second Chinese National Conference on Na-ion Batteries on February 23. This demonstration previewed the NIBs' impending installation in a large number of EVs. By commercializing NIB into the EV sector, this represents a significant advancement.

The demo car's total installed battery capacity is 25 kWh, and it is powered by NIBs with an energy density of more than 140 Wh/kg, enabling a driving range of up to 250 km on a single charge.

Li-ion battery development is severely hindered by the limited supply and unequal distribution of lithium (Li) resources (LIBs). A stifling danger to the supply of raw materials for the current battery industry exists since China imports 70% of the Li resources it uses due to the country's limited natural resources and mining challenges. Many battery makers and downstream customers are now under increasing cost pressure due to the spike in lithium carbonate prices last year. As a result, it has been commonly assumed that NIBs are the most promising alternative to LIBs, garnering increasing attention. NIBs offer better cost-performance, great safety, and outstanding cycle performance.

With an emphasis on NIB innovation and commercialization, HiNa Battery Technologies Co., Ltd. was established in 2017. The business has been honing NIBs with its unique technology, proud of its top-tier research capabilities.

Previous to this electric vehicle demonstration vehicle, HiNa Battery was a pioneer in putting NIBs through different application trials over the course of the previous 6 years, including micro-EV, tour e-bus, home ESS, and 100kWh and MWh level ESS.
