About the role

We're two former leads from the PayPal Checkout team (engineering & product), we just started Y Combinator and got pre-seed funding for our new startup which we launched in Summer 2022, and we're looking for an engineer to join us!

Our goal is simple: to make it possible to use your phone number to pay anywhere and everywhere, with zero friction. We have a ton of cool ways to make that work, and a bunch of merchants and brands already using our platform.

Apply at: https://forms.gle/5QrQj4SzbYGx4qK47

Full job description: https://gist.github.com/bluepnume/a6a7c793527067b770e49d2fa8cab3e2

Our stack:

  • Front-end: JS/TS/React
  • API: Node/TS/Postgres/Redis
  • Services: Shopify/Twilio/PayPal/Stripe/Authorize.net

What we do: payments, vaulting, automated conversations, and merchant-facing dashboards. Plus a whole load of interesting things in-between.

Most important skill: be able to communicate well, and learn quickly. Doesn't matter if you haven't used every technology listed above, so long as you're a fast learner and happy to jump quickly into new things.

Experience level: open to junior and senior. Will probably prioritize engineers with at least 4-5 years of experience, who can ultimately help lead our engineering team. But if you're more junior, please still apply if you're open to a job a few months down the line.

Expectations: it's a startup, and we just got accepted into YCombinator 2023. So it will be busy, there's no avoiding that. But we want to create a great engineering culture that fosters innovation, learning, and mentorship. We want to teach, and we want to learn from you too.

Location: we're both CA (bay area), open to remote anywhere in US, may be able to make non-US work with some kind of contracting role but priority given to US-based folk.

Salary: completely dependent on experience and skill. Equity on the table. (Apologies for being vague here. Our plan is to create the role and compensation around the candidate we think is the best fit. )

About the interview

https://gist.github.com/bluepnume/a6a7c793527067b770e49d2fa8cab3e2

Loose structure:

  1. Half hour chat, let's get to know each other, see if it's a good fit w/ Daniel.
  2. Quick coding exercise (either w/ Daniel or offline, your choice)
  3. 60-90 mins of technical and culture topics (mostly questions above) w/ Daniel (+ Jonathan if available)
  4. 30 mins w/ Daniel and Jonathan

Want to be respectful of your time, but also want to give enough time to make sure we can answer all your questions too! So we can always extend any of these sessions or set follow ups if you prefer.

Also happy to do in-person for anything after step 1, if you're in the Bay Area.
