Derek Wise: 2023 MacBook Pro SSD Has Performance Drop Similar to M2 MacBook Air
A quick look inside the base-level M2 Pro MacBook Pro revealed something I hadn’t expected to see – or, rather, something I HAD expected to see that was missing. Like the base level M2 MacBook Air, the base level of the latest MacBook Pro seems to feature less NAND chips – at a higher capacity – than the last generation. This results in SSD read and write performance dramatically lower than the previous generation.
I don't think this is a huge deal, but I do think it's a bit funny that when Macs get super fast SSDs, many are like "wow, look at how much faster these are than most PCs. Another great reason to buy a Mac!" Now the speed is reduced and the response from many of the same people is "oh boo hoo, it's not like you're even going to notice the difference."
Again, not a controversy, but I do think it's fun to see people love benchmarks when they show their side winning, and then think benchmarks are the worst once they don't.
