微软已终止对Windows 8.1的支持，并建议用户进行升级

微软近日宣布，对Windows 8.1的支持将会在2023年1月10日结束，所有运行Windows 8.1的PC将不会从微软这里得到任何问题的技术支持，软件更新和补丁。
在通告里面微软还强调了并不会给Windows 8.1提供扩张安全更新（ESU）计划。而Windows 7是有这个计划的，不过它面向的主要是企业用户，并且需要付费才能获得。附带一提的是，除了嵌入式系统外，Windows 7几个主要版本的ESU支持也在2023年1月10日结束。
相比起Windows 7包含ESU在内那长达14年的更新支持，Windows 8仅支持了11年看起来似乎还短了一点。由于采用了更贴近移动触屏设备的设计风格，当时其实很多人都表示不太习惯Windows 8，转而继续使用Windows 7，所以支持时间的缩短看起来也似乎是合情合理的。
对于还在使用Windows 8.1的用户，微软的建议购买一台搭载Windows 11的新电脑，或者尽快将电脑升级到Windows 10或者Windows 11。微软同时也强调，Windows 8.1无法免费升级到Windows 10和11。
考虑到绝大多数Windows 8.1时期的电脑已经用上了UEFI引导和GPT分区，所以从技术上来说，升级到Windows 10并不需要太多的操作。而因为Windows 11对TPM和处理器的严格要求，所以这些电脑升级到Windows 11可能是比较困难的。
