1989年，任天堂发布第一代便携式游戏机Game Boy， 它的诞生奠定了任天堂在掌机领域的绝对统治地位，同时也成为了世界上最为畅销的几款游戏机之一。
今天，根据数据统计机构站vgchartz的消息，
Switch的全球销量已经超越Game Boy，成为历史上第三畅销的游戏机，仅次于索尼的PS2与任天堂的NDS。
数据显示，截止2022年12月10日，Switch总销量达到了1.1899亿台，超过了Game Boy终生1.1869亿台的销量。
现在，排在Switch前面的，是终生销量1.54亿台的NDS，以及终生销量1.58亿台的PS2.
