I have a newly acquired ATV 2022, running tvOS 16, which i want to use as an Airplay-target from a cMP 5,1, running 12.6.2 via OCLP. But it just doesn't work. ☹️

I can connect to the ATV just fine. But the options for choosing mirroring or extending screen are just not shown. Neither in control panel nor in menu bar's control center. And the TV's screen just goes black, neither showing the Mac's screen nor things pushed over to the side of it. So the TV's screen does not seem to work as any of mirror or extension.

And this is where i'm stuck. Does Airplay just not work with cMPs running Monterey or am i missing something? Any ideas?

I forgot: GPU of the Mac is a Radeon RX 570, if this is of any matter.

AFAIK, it won't work, and no solution yet.

Thanks! Sad that is! 😟

Solution so far is sideloading KODI (which was the reason to try this at all) directly to the ATV with a free developer account. Have to resign every 7 days, if i want to keep using it. But don't like to pay 100$ a year just to have "the right" to use things i own the way i want.

And i have not much hopes there will be a JB for the ATV 2022 some day soon. Not so easy even without USB. 😢

For videos, it's possible to stream that to ATV, as long as both the mac and the ATV support that codec, and no transcoding in between. But you can't stream the desktop to ATV.

For desktop streaming, there are few other apps in macOS can do that. Some can stream to the ATV (e.g. AirParrot), some others may stream the desktop to the TV directly (if the TV supported, e.g. AirBeamTV).

Desktop streaming is not required. Also i do not use KODI to stream downloaded content. So the codec-thing isn't that much of a problem to me.

The Problem is to get KODI streaming to the ATV at all. So i came across some app, LocalCast, which appears to be a possible solution. It claims to make the ATV available as a UPnP target. So KODI should be able to stream to it. So maybe i will give this a try.

Is there a reason you don't use an Apple TV client such as Infuse or Plex via SMB assuming that you are just streaming media?

Yes. The reason is the xStream AddOn, which can find and stream almost anything that can be found anywhere on the net. „Not completely legal“ for the more recent stuff and more often than not not the best quality. But, if you are looking for "that particular movie" you have once seen years ago, it is absolutely priceless and unmatched.

I can Airplay directly to my Samsung TV in Monterey, but cannot Airplay to the ATV (latest). It shows black screen. Must be some other setting, which I am missing. This is on a hack not cMP.

One thing, i could try! Will give it a shot tomorrow. Thanks for the hint!
Does it mirror the desktop?
but cannot Airplay to the ATV (latest). It shows black screen.
Yes! That's exactly what i am experiencing. ...and no options to choose for mirroring or extending shown.

At least on the ATV, i think i went to all of the relevant settings.
As it is Monterey, Hack or cMP shouldn't make that much of a difference. It is not running natively anyway.

As far as Kodi on ATV I use singulous signing service (15$ a year).
Edit: I can Airplay from Monterey on a T2 MBP to the ATV. I can also airplay from my 2015 MBP running unsupported Ventura through OCLP to the ATV. So my guess is that when spoofing a T2 smbios of machines like iMacPro or MP7,1 the system expects a T2 chip and airplay does not work if it can't find it.

Is it this thing which claims administrative rights to the box? 😱

It's not for the 15 or 25 bucks a year...but no f....ing way! I'd rather resign every 7 days for the rest of my life or pay four times the amount to Apple for a "real" dev account...

...than giving away complete control over some device in my home to just anybody.

Hmmm, have to look over the settings of my last OCLP-build. But i doubt it has been set to any T2 thing but rather to the default which is "minimal spoofing" as far as i remember.

Also no for me! 😢

When i try to AirPlay to my TV, a TCL running android, Monterey shows "connected". Again without giving the choice to select between mirroring and extending the desktop. But on the TV-side it doesn't even launch the AirPin-app, which is instantly launched in the background, when mirroring an iPhone. Which works perfectly. To the TV as well as to the ATV.

You lost me here. How are you giving control over your devices?
