US Congress set to ban TikTok use on government devices
A proposal to ban the installation and use of TikTok on US government devices has been inserted into a key spending bill being put before the US Congress and is expected to become law in the coming days, Reuters reports. According to the proposal, the US Office of Management and Budget will “develop standards and guidelines for executive agencies” to remove the ByteDance-owned short video platform from federal devices within 60 days of the bill taking effect. Officials in the US, TikTok’s largest market, have long held security concerns over the app and its relationship with China, with nearly 20 state governments having now banned the platform on official devices.
