So when you say database, I immediately think database/SQL-like capabilities, being able to use query syntaxes and also doing remote data I/O. Is any of that available with Baserow? Also, what db engine do you use? I'd for sure use something like this for our Customer Success team, especially if I can integrate it with Segment!
Hi @florin_biro, Baserow is a no-code database, meaning you do relational database capabilities, but you use filters instead of queries to select the right data. We have an easy-to-use API to get data in and out. We're using PostgreSQL under the hood. Every table that's created in Baserow, will also be created in PostgreSQL. If you self-host, you can connect to the PostgreSQL database directly and use queries.
@florin_biro We also have a formula field that is just a simpler way of writing SQL queries.

Hello Product Hunt community!

Bram, founder here! First of all, thanks to @thisiskp_ for hunting Baserow!

I started Baserow with the vision to build the most scalable, flexible, and user-friendly open source no-code toolchain.

I believe using an open development model helps us create more stable and secure technologies. If you are using no-code tools like Airtable, you would have noticed that most of them do not offer full extensibility and scalability. Now, you might argue that many no-code tools have an app store with API extensions or pre-integrated apps, which is true. The real extensibility though comes from the ability to modify the source code and build the specific plugins your team needs, today and in the future. That requires fully transparent, developer-friendly openness. Which Baserow offers.

Another big pain point for no-code users is that they are limited to one tool, or tied to further business decisions — be it to increase the cost, discontinue the development, or anything else. With Baserow you adhere to your own decisions and move further of your own accord. No vendor lock-in is a huge advantage if you play long-term.

With all these thoughts, I started working on Baserow back in early 2019 as a side project and launched the first version in May 2020. Today I'm proud to share that Baserow consists of 15 team members, and we raised a seed round of €5M.

What is Baserow? Baserow combines some great features Airtable has and offers better security, speed, and flexibility. With Baserow you can:

- Manage large volumes of data. - Collaborate on data between teams in real-time. - Install on your own server and own your data. - Thrive for better data governance. - Easily integrate with other tools because of our API-first approach. - Extend by building plugins.

Features:

- Create and share views: Grid, Gallery, Form, Kanban, Calendar (soon), Timeline (soon). - More than 50 templates. - Easy to use API with configurable token permissions and webhooks. - Filter, sort, search and aggregations. - Undo-redo, snapshots, duplication and trash bin. - Row coloring and drag and drop ordering. - Many rich field types. - Importing and exporting. - Workspace user management. - Self host via Docker, on Heroku, on Cloudron and more. - Integrations with: Zapier, Make and n8n.

Who can use Baserow? Overall, anyone. Baserow is designed for non-technical users from any department — from HR and Operations to Software engineering. It allows collaboration on data in an easy-to-use database, without writing a single line of code.

When you use Baserow, you're contributing to a community that puts people first. Our users are the ones who help shape the product development: 7 out of 10 features we release are usually suggested by the community.

If all of the above resonated with you, support us and share your thoughts, comment and feedback. And after testing Baserow, tell us: what do you think about the tool?

@thisiskp_ @bramw1 I know about Baserow but haven't yet tried. I guess, I should start using it now. No reason not to do so! All the best :)
@thisiskp_ @mariamyusuf_ Please let us know what you think of the product after you've tried it!

I recommend Baserow whenever I have the opportunity, why? because it is an incredible and very powerful tool that can be used in the most different situations in personal life or in business ?

Since I met him, at the beginning of 2022, I left other tools I used and started to use only him on a daily basis, and even though I am not a developer, due to its ease and simplicity, I use all the advanced resources it offers ?

Thanks to the Baserow team for the amazing work they've done so far, and looking forward to even more amazing features to come. Success!

That's an amazing story @claudio_balbino! It's great to hear that Baserow is so useful for you.
@claudio_balbino thanks for being an active member of the community, Claudio ?

Hey PH fam ?

Super thrilled to introduce Baserow to you and the wider world today!

I stumbled across Baserow on Twitter a few months ago and as someone who's always curating new cutting-edge no-code tools, this one piqued my interest right away. Why?

For years, I wondered if there would be an Airtable competitor as it has a near monopoly in the space and yet the market is so wide and open. Although there have been several attempts to challenge Airtable, Baserow stood out to me because it's open-source. Which means it's entirely customizable and developer-friendly and yet it's super accessible to the non-technical people on the team as well. Check out the wide range of templates, they blew my mind!

After trying out Baserow and getting to know the founders' vision, I instantly agreed to hunt it and share this powerful tool with the larger PH community! ?

In short, Baserow, is an Airtable alternative that helps people build databases with minimal technical prowess.

I am planning to explore the tool a lot further in the coming months, I hope you'll check it out and see if it makes sense for your projects and businesses.

Baserow's founder @bramw1 and rest of the team are all here today to answer your questions. Feel free to share your thoughts, feedback and questions below: ⤵️

Thank you for checking it out!
