General Trade-In Issues

I think I have the opposite problem compared to some on this thread. I shipped mine on Oct 20th. USPS via tracking shows that it was delivered to Google on Oct 22nd. However Google's website says that it is still waiting to receive the phone.

In Germany, I have to send the package with FedEx, but FedEx is virtually non-existent in Germany... I also received my Trade in Kit only after 15 days and now I have to have my smartphone shipped by October 31.
Let's see if they pick it up tomorrow
Not exactly the yellow of egg to use a US parcel service in Germany, we have umpteen other very large parcel services, but of course Google wants to annoy me and uses a service provider hardly existing in Germany good job Google

Even though I haven't had trade-in issues ever, yet (but I've only done technically three trades so far), I'm seriously considering next time using my own choice of delivery service - it could still be USPS here in the U.S., insuring it for the trade-in amount and requiring a signature for delivery.

Sure, it would eat into the good trade-in value, but for my peace of mind, it might be worth it.

When you use their provided shipping label, since you didn't pay for the label there's no chance to insure it or make any other requirements, and you just have to hope for the best, or that their customer service will treat you well if things don't work out.

The fact that all three times I've done trade-ins (once with Samsung, these last two with Google), the tracking doesn't match the reality is not comforting at all. I feel lucky so far, but how much longer will I be? It's not worth chancing hundreds of dollars versus spending maybe $20-$30 tops (just guessing).
I don't think I had any choices....
Only FedEx was offered, or could you have shipped with a service provider yourself?

Mine has been 4 days in the USPS transit-system. It's showing that it's in a USPS annex but the delivery has been "delayed."

Hopefully the credit gets processed this week.

This is what I have going on with my P7 as well, shipped it Oct 18th, USPS shows delivered to Google & picked up on Oct 20th. Google Store still shows my trade-in is in step 3, waiting to recive old phone.

It's just my opinion so far, but I haven't seen any company specify that you can't use your own shipping method. If you pay for it, you can use whatever method you want. Ship it to the exact same address, probably even include their packaging and label within your own packaging.
Yesterday afternoon, Google emailed its valuation of our second Pixel 5 trade-in at the estimated $400. Although we've yet to see either $400 payment reflected on our credit card, I'm now confident that it will be, despite the unreliability of USPS tracking, which still shows both returns "Moving Through Network" and "In Transit, Arriving Late". I'll note, too, that the most recent USPS updates are dated October 24 and 25.

Update for my trade-in: Took Google one week to say they received my device and have begun to assess it.
chiming in one last time on this, got the email about tradein credit coming my way. it was the amount as promised.

Until today, I've been concerned that, having delivered two Pixel 5 trade-ins to my local Post Office on the morning of Tuesday, October, 18, USPS tracking showed that, since Thursday and Friday, respectively, of last week, they were stuck, "moving through the network", in Nashville, not yet out for delivery. Today, however, I received two emails from Google acknowledging receipt of the phones and their moving to the assessment stage of the trade-in process. The USPS tracking status hasn't changed, however.

I had the same issue, the phone left Nashville Monday 10/24 at 5:34am but nothing ever changed. Yesterday I received an email from google saying the phone was being examined yesterday. Late in the afternoon I was informed that my refund was being processed. I think USPS was overwhelmed by the number of packages going to La Vergne and didn't scan them for delivery

Both $400 credits--for our two Pixel 5s--have now posted to my credit card account. I mailed the phones to Google the morning of Tuesday, October 18. USPS tracking still shows both phones "Moving Through Network" and "In Transit, Arriving Late".

  • looks like you faired better than me. my trade in is "in transit" from that Nashville hub and Google says they don't have it. it's been over a week. it's making me nervous. it's a Galaxy Note20 Ultra. if they lose it I basically lost over $500

I'm in the same boat. My Pixel 6 Pro has been in transit from the Nashville hub since the 21st as well. They offered me $600 trade in value. I did some searching and from what others have said Google will still give the trade in value they assesed as long as you have proof the phone was shipped. They will have to do a lost mail claim with USPS and that takes around 10 days. Reading that makes me fill a little better but I'm still nervous as hell.

My two Pixel 6 Pros were stuck "Moving through Network" since early morning Friday, October 21st. They still both show that status with USPS tracking, but yesterday I got an email that the one had arrived, and the Google Store does show that they are accessing it. The second one, as of this morning, still hadn't arrived.

I've noticed with trade-ins that it's similar to some (not all) Amazon returns I've made. They give me a "shipping label", and have me drop it off at the post office. Then the tracking shows them not really going anywhere but handed off (I forget the exact terminology they use). It's like the post office doesn't really ship (or in the case of our phone trade-ins, deliver) in a normal fashion despite them looking like they do. As if the post office is just some central drop-off point. In Amazon return cases, I typically get an acknowledgment of the return is complete within 24 hours, but these device trade-ins are harrowing.

I chose trade-in instead of selling on Swappa because I figured the selling price of them would go down tremendously with all the people upgrading - and I believe I've confirmed it did happen that way.
USPS still shows both my traded-in phones moving through the network. Meanwhile, Google has emailed acknowledgments that it has received both and assessed and refunded the full amount estimated on one of them.
well then, got an email just now from Google. they have it but usps tracking still says in transit.
It took like 10 days and they finally got my Pixel 4a and I got $300 for it which I was happy because I got it on sale for that much originally. Lol...
