Chinese electric vehicle maker XPeng makes its first public flight of its flying car in Dubai

XPeng Aeroht, an affiliate of Chinese electric-vehicle maker XPeng Inc, made the first public flight of its X2 flying car in Dubai this week, as the company move one step closer to launch electric aircraft on international markets.

The public flight took place at Skydive Dubai, located adjacent to The Palm,

The XPENG X2 is a two-seater electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft that has an enclosed cockpit and a carbon fiber structure, it can soar to altitudes of up to 1,000 m (3,281 ft), cruise at up to 130 km/h (81 mph) and fly for up to 35 minutes on each charge.

The X2 is Aeroht’s fifth-generation “flying car, it has two driving modes: manual and autonomous flying modes. XPeng  said it plans to announce more progress for its sixth-generation model that can drive on roads as well as fly at the 1024 XPeng Tech Day.

“ XPeng X2’s public display in Dubai represents a significant milestone for XPeng AeroHT and the international achievement of flying cars. Dubai is a world-renowned ‘City of Innovation’, which is the reason we decided to hold the X2 first public flight event here,” said Brian Gu, Vice Chairman and President of XPeng.

Established in 2013, AeroHT is a majority-owned entity of XPeng Inc, it has so far conducted over 15,000 safely manned flights that aims to take advantage of automotive and aerospace technologies to develop safe, domestic electric flying vehicles at scale.

XPENG AEROHT raised over US$500 million for its Series A capital funding in October last year. the funding round is led by IDG Capital, 5Y Capital and XPeng Inc. with participation by a group of investors, including Sequoia China, Eastern Bell Capital, GGV Capital, GL Ventures and Yunfeng Capital.
