This is Vytas, co-founder & CEO of Greeningweb.com.

We just launched https://greeningweb.com/ - a free, easy-to-add widget that calculates your website traffic energy consumption and covers it with renewable energy.

Why does it matter? Some stats why should you consider sustainability initiatives in your business strategy:

Green initiatives grow businesses 28 times faster. 46% of companies said their green initiatives have led to partnerships with other like-minded companies. 61% of US customers consider sustainability before buying. 64 % of millennials are willing to decline a job if the company lacks corporate responsibility.

Greeningweb Widget is available to literally anyone that has a website. Plus, it’s free for any website that has less than 10 000 monthly visitors and only now, for all ProductHunt users, 1 month of GreeningWeb subscription of any plan is TOTALLY FREE with code “HUNT100”*!

How does it work?

Enter your website URL on https://app.greeningweb.com and you will immediately see the energy consumption of users visiting your site. Pick a plan that suits you best and by adding only one line of code, you are ready to go.

In the background: - We calculate the energy consumption of each visitor on your webpage; - We issue monthly reports to see how much energy your website and visitors consumed : - We use renewable energy certificates from renewable energy power plants to cover your visitors' consumption.

With the GreeningWeb widget, you will:

Associate your Brand with sustainability and grow your conversions and traffic; Take the first steps to becoming carbon neutral and helping our planet; Share your greening report (certificate) with your community and empower others to join!

*use code “HUNT100” and get 1 month free subscription of our widget Greenningweb.com. Code can be applied within one week after our ProductHunt listing is live.

🥇 We've been hard at work building out the first version and would love to get feedback from the PH community! I'll be here all day with my team to answer any questions you have! Thank you so, so much for hunting us @kevin (and for your patience as we got geared up for launch!)!

@kevin @vytautas_enrex “We use renewable energy certificates from renewable energy power plants to cover your visitors' consumption.” ← I really don’t understand what this means.

What are renewable energy certificates? How does using them cover the visitors' power consumption?

@kevin @anna_0x thanks for asking -->

Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) provide proof that the owner of an energy market instrument owns one MWh of renewable energy; they account for the amount of renewable energy that flows through the power grid.

RECs can go by other names, including Green Tags, Tradable Renewable Certificates (TRCs), Renewable Electricity Certificates, or Renewable Energy Credits.

Let me know if I have answered your question.

@kevin @vytautas_enrex kind of… What does it mean in practice if I “own one MWh of renewable energy”? Does that pay for new energy to be created from renewable sources? Like, how does it actually offset the energy consumption of the website (or is that not the point?)

@kevin @vytautas_enrex @anna_0x please schedule a demo on greeningweb.com and we will explain all the steps.

Regarding your questions yes the renewable power plants sell certificates and other participants buy certificates and retire/ use. That is the tracking system to track the electricity
