All Apple Stores in the United Kingdom will be closed on Monday, September 19, out of respect for the planned state funeral of Her Majesty the Queen, Apple told UK-based staff today.

Monday, September 19, has been marked as a bank holiday by King Charles III, given the planned state funeral for Her Majesty. Official government guidance states that it's up to individual businesses whether they wish to close on that day.

Apple also told staff that this coming Wednesday, the first day the Queen's coffin is expected to lie in state in London, it will operate at a reduced capacity in its stores across the United Kingdom. Reduced working capacities are expected to continue into the weekend for some locations.

Following her death, Apple has kept a tribute to the Queen on its UK front page.

Not that I'm complaining about a free holiday but this state mandated grieving nonsense is real pass the sick bag stuff. There are plenty of republicans in the UK who find the royal family abhorrent and for a US company like Apple to join in. Well it's just completely bizarre.

I must admit to feeling a bit sad when I heard the Queen had died, but it didn’t affect me as much as when Steve Jobs died.

I mean, she was 96, she had a good innings. Steve died way too young.

The link (and article) seem to suggest it’s up to the employer. Doesn’t sound mandatory to me.

Luckily there are more people with the common decency and class to keep it to themselves. You only had to wait 96 years - so it is hardly a regular inconvenience for you.

It's not mandatory, but there's a clear pressure to do so from above. As if you're someone not nationalistic enough if you aren't furiously waving a union jack and crying uncontrollably because a 96 year old fabulously wealthy woman has died.

It's just all very North Korean.

As is case for all UK bank holidays. Usually if company stays open, employees get a days holiday in lieu to use whenever.

You don't have to like her, but you could at least show some respect, since she was no ordinary woman.

You can express your opinion, as long as you're respectful.

No, it'd be bizzare to close worldwide; totally adequate for the UK.

Hear hear. “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.”

It’s hardly a major inconvenience. Closing the Apple Stores in London for one day is hardly a huge inconvenience.

The lack of respect and compassion here is astounding. Yes, we are all entitled to our own opinions, however everybody deserves respect, which costs nothing. The old saying of 'if you've not got anything good to say, then don't say it' springs to mind.

🙏Rest in peace, I’m sorry for their loss.

Where is that Apple Store located? It’s very pretty.

Yes it’s very North Korean with all the forced Labour camps we have here, the mass starvation, the state sanctioned violence. /s

People like you need to get a grip. What you have said makes a mockery of the suffering of 25m North Koreans.

It's not far off that now... wait until Winter, when some people have to choose between heating their homes and eating...

It's not a normal public holiday, their is no legal obligation for the employer to allow their employees to have the day off next Monday. Hopefully many will respect and honour the day and allow staff to take it off. I still don't know if I've got it off.

Saw the Queen getting some support for her Mac in the Genius Bar in Covent Garden store once. Seemed to know what she was talking about. She was telling the Genius about what a pain it used to be "when one had to work with punch cards."

God bless you Ma'am.
