Once a year, developers from around the world meet for Arm DevSummit, an event like no other. This year, for the first time, Arm DevSummit is live and in person, in San Francisco at the Palace of Fine Arts. Attendees can participate in everything from masterclasses and workshops to tech sessions and meetups, and that is just the start. These are not your average tech sessions, and this is not your average event, so say goodbye to back-to-back presentations. We are here to get our hands dirty with Arm hardware, dig into new tech, and nerd out over code while drinking free beer. Be the first to experience all this event has to offer. Join your fellow developers, live and in person for the fun times. Learn together, build together, network, and grow your skill set through a plethora of engaging and collaborative content tailored for developers.

In this blog series, we explore everything Arm DevSummit has to offer and give an overview of how to navigate everything provided on the website and at the event.

Explore the Arm DevSummit Website

First off, if you have not explored the website yet, I highly suggest doing so now! While this blog gives you an overview of why you cannot miss Arm DevSummit, everything you need can be found on the website. So, for those of you who want to see it all now, be my guest and come back to the blog later.

Navigating to the Program area of the site you can find information on the technology tracks. You will also see a glimpse of some of the event content such as tech sessions, masterclasses, and more. For a deeper dive into the schedule, simply click on one of the tracks to begin exploring.

You can also check out the speaker's list or register, everything is a click away on the navigation bar at the top of the site.

Make sure you don’t delay, as workshop spots are limited and are filling up quickly – secure your spot for your favorite workshop.

The Technology Tracks

Arm DevSummit does a great job at focusing on the topics that matter each year. Since Arm is pretty much everywhere, we do our very best to cover as much as possible by providing a wide selection of tracks filled with amazing and polished content.

  • IoT DevOps and Virtual Hardware
  • Cloud and 5G Infrastructure
  • Gaming
  • Windows on Arm
  • Mobile Device Technology
  • Autonomous and Software-Defined Vehicles

From IoT to the cloud and everything in between. If you are developing on Arm or have ever thought about beginning your journey on Arm, this event has something for everyone. Where else can you find a lineup with speakers from AWS, Oracle, Microsoft, Canonical, Google, Linaro, Red Hat, and so many others? Everyone wants to play their part in making Arm DevSummit one of the most desirable events for developers. For more information about these tracks, I highly recommend visiting the website for a deeper dive into everything that is covered.

So Much Content

Arm DevSummit will have over 80 technical sessions, 24 masterclasses, 18 workshops, on-demand materials, meetups, and more. Arm, our partners, and the community have packed this event with so many activities and so much content, there is seriously something for everyone.

As part of this blog, I thought I would highlight some of the sessions I am most excited about. Keep in mind that there is so much happening throughout these two days, this summary does not do justice to everything on the agenda.

Now I tend to gravitate toward the cloud and IoT tracks, these are my areas of interest this year. Here are the sessions and workshops I have added to my schedule, so if you are at the event, you know where to find me:

Workshop: AWS GreenGrass Now Supports the PARSEC Project - What Does it Mean?

I remember when AWS Greengrass launched to the general public back in 2017. At the time, I was working with 96Boards, and the DragonBoard 410c was one of the first single board computers (SBC) enabled for AWS Greengrass (I did a lot of work on this SBC). I have also been following the PARSEC project for a while now, especially since it was picked up by CNCF as a Sandbox project. This workshop focuses on simplifying security at the edge with AWS Greengrass and PARSEC, so to see these two technologies working together should be fun.

Adding to all of this, one of my favorite developers will be proctoring this workshop, Darragh Grealish of 56k Cloud, so, I am sure it will be a good one.

Session: Windows on Arm for Cloud Native Software Development

Switching gears, let’s look at Windows on Arm. This session examines Windows on Arm, and in the cloud. I am excited to see sessions like this, as I have been monitoring the progress here for a long time. Knowing developers finally have the tools they need to work efficiently in this space is a great sign for things to come.

I was fortunate enough to attend a workshop back at Arm TechCon 2019, proctored by Jason Andrews, who will also be presenting this session. He is a very knowledgeable speaker, and I greatly look forward to attending this one.

Did I Mention I Have a Workshop? (Shameless Plug)

Joined by the folks from IoTeX, we will be proctoring a workshop on owning your data with Arm-based Arduino and the IoTeX blockchain. To my knowledge, there has never been a web3 / blockchain-focused session or workshop at Arm DevSummit before, so this will be a first. All workshop attendees will be provided with their very own Arduino board to hack on. Attendees who participate in this workshop will have the chance to build their first dApp (decentralized application) on the device that communicates directly with the IoTeX blockchain. This workshop is all about bringing data ownership back to the users who created it.

Arm DevSummit keynote

Of Course

As I have already mentioned, it is not just about the workshops and masterclasses. There will be hands-on demos, meetups, and best-of-all, the Arm DevSummit party – they are even keeping some of the party as a surprise for the day! There is just so much happening at this event that it will be hard to see and enjoy it all.

What's Next?

The only thing left to do is explore everything this event has to offer on the Arm DevSummit website. Register by either logging in if you joined Arm DevSummit in 2020 or creating an account, and start building out your schedule. A reminder: remember to book your workshop spot early.

In the next part of this series, we will look at the various keynotes and speakers of Arm DevSummit 2022. Keep an eye on the software developer Twitter channel where we will be sharing updates.

Stay tuned, because October 26 - 27 is right around the corner, and you will not want to miss this one.
