Microsoft is projected to launch the next Windows 11 feature update in the fall, and while the company has so far remained tight-lipped on the ETA, it’s believed the rollout could start at some point in September.

In the meantime, a Microsoft app is the one that drops additional hints at the name of this upcoming update, as the Get Started app has quietly been updated with a mention of the new Windows 11 feature update.

@XenoPanther discovered (via Neowin) that the Get Started app claims the next Windows 11 feature update could be called “Windows 11 2022 Update”- Microsoft has later removed this reference, and this could be another sign that the discovery is actually accurate.

“You’re now running the Windows 11 2022 Update! Read on to discover new features and set things up just how you like,” the Get Started app reads when updated to the latest version.

One update per year

As said, Microsoft has already removed the next Windows 11 feature update reference, so right now, the welcome page no longer mentions the Windows 11 version that the device is running.

The name of this upcoming Windows 11 feature update seems to suggest that Microsoft will indeed release one major update for the operating system every year. In other words, what comes next after the next-month release should be Windows 11 2023 Update, though it’s not clear if the software giant plans to maintain this approach after Windows 12 also sees daylight.

At this point, however, the Redmond-based software giant has remained completely tight-lipped on everything related to the debut of the next Windows 11 feature update, so it remains to be seen how the company ends up calling this highly anticipated update. More information, however, should be revealed by Microsoft itself sooner rather than later.
