Updates to the Fusion 360 Simulation Workspace

Autodesk is updating the solving options available within the simulation workspace in Fusion 360.

Starting on September 6, 2022:
  • The ability to run simulation studies on your local computer will no longer be an option for simulation solving.
  • All simulation study types within the simulation workspace of Fusion 360 will only have the cloud-solving option.
These changes will impact existing Fusion 360 customers who use linear stress, modal frequencies, thermal, and thermal stress simulation study types.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What Fusion 360 users will be impacted by this change?
Anyone who currently uses or plans to use the local solving capabilities within the Fusion 360 simulation workspace.

What are the effective dates for this change?
The changes will become effective with the September 6, 2022, Fusion 360 update.

Which Fusion 360 simulation study types are changing?
Linear stress, modal frequencies, thermal, and thermal stress simulation study types. These study types have previously allowed for local solving prior to this Fusion 360 update.

How will Fusion 360 subscribers be able to access linear stress, modal frequencies, thermal, and thermal stress simulations moving forward?
Linear static stress, modal frequencies, thermal, and thermal stress study types will continue to be available through cloud solving as a part of the Simulation Extension. Fusion 360 customers can subscribe to the Simulation Extension or utilize cloud Tokens to access and run simulations on the cloud.
The current simulation pay-per-result rates can be found within this help topic: Tokens for Fusion 360 Simulation studies.

Note: The token cost of running a Linear Static Stress simulation on the cloud using Fusion 360 is currently 0 tokens. Please refer to the link above for the most up-to-date information on cloud solve token rates.

Will I be able to access the results from simulations I have used local solve for previously?
Yes, any analysis previously run using local solving will continue to display any results that had been completed previously.

If you make any changes to the existing simulations after this update, you must rerun using the currently available solving options. You will not be able to rerun it locally after this September Fusion 360 update.

If I am in the middle of a project at the time of this update, can I delay the Fusion 360 update to solve the remaining tasks on my local machine?
You can temporarily pause the update by enabling Offline Mode prior to September 6, 2022. This enables you to delay the update, only until you are prompted to reconnect to the Fusion 360 servers (up to 2 weeks after switching offline). You can find more details on how to enable Fusion 360 Offline Mode here: How to work in offline mode in Fusion 360

It is recommended to not rely solely on the limited time you are provided by using the offline mode to complete your project. In the event where you require more time after being prompted to log back in, you can explore the cloud solve options, which utilize the same solvers as the local solvers had previously.

The Fusion 360 Simulation Extension 7 day trial may be an option if you have not yet used it.
