TSMC says 3nm chips production expansion is on track
TSMC commented on some recent reports from analysts at TrendForce. It says that the Taiwanese manufacturer have to reconsider its plans to expand its capacity to manufacture products using 3nm process technology. This is allegedly due to Intel‘s plans to postpone the release of Meteor Lake chips.
“Intel will entrust TSMC with the production of graphics for Meteor Lake processors, in which the GPU will get a new design. Initially, the start of production was scheduled for the second half of 2022, then Intel pushed the deadlines to the first half of 2023 due to problems with products and process verification, and recently the start of mass production for an unknown reason was completely postponed to the end of 2023” reports TrendForce.
TSMC is expanding the 3nm process production

So, TrendForce report claimed that Intel allegedly decided to postpone the mass production of Meteor Lake processors from the end of 2022 to the end of 2023. They will consist of several crystals, and the GPU crystals will be using TSMC’s 3-nm process technology.
“TSMC does not comment on matters related to the business of our individual clients. Our expansion project is progressing on schedule,” a TSMC spokesperson told Economic Daily.
Meanwhile, Intel had earlier announced in its financial report that 14th Gen Intel Core processors. It has the codename Meteor Lake and would be available next year. “In 2023, we will begin shipping our first disaggregated processors, Meteor Lake, using the Intel Process 4 process. They perform well in our labs and in our customers’ labs”. This was the talk of CEO Pat Gelsinger in a financial report for the second quarter of this year.
It turns out that the release of Meteor Lake in 2022 is really out of the question. So TrendForce’s data on postponing their release to 2023 really has a basis. But this will not affect TSMC’s plans in any way.
