Microsoft lets users buy licenses from the Store directly
It took a while, but it’s probably better late than never. Microsoft has silently added Windows 11 licenses to the Microsoft Store, therefore providing users with an easy way to buy a product key whenever they need one.
As discovered by PCMag, the licenses have most likely been published at some point in May, with Microsoft surprisingly not releasing an official announcement in this regard.
This is strange, to say the least, especially because the whole thing makes it a lot easier for users who want to buy a license key for the device they’re currently using.
Windows 11 Home is available for $139.00, while Windows 11 Pro can be had for $199.99. These are the typical prices for Windows 11 licenses, though it goes without saying that you can get them a lot cheaper if you know where to look.
Maybe you want to buy a new Windows 11 PC?
Microsoft clearly states on the Microsoft Store that these licenses are only available for devices that need a new license for Windows, so you can’t buy it for Windows 10 device that doesn’t meet the system requirements to move to Windows 11 free of charge.
“This version is designed for PCs that need a new license for Windows and meet the minimum system requirements (for Windows 11. If your PC is running Windows 10 and you are unable to use Windows Update to install the free upgrade to Windows 11, you will not be able to install this version of Windows 11,” the company says.
Furthermore, Microsoft uses this opportunity to recommend users to purchase a new computer – in most cases, a new device that comes with Windows 11 pre-installed already includes an OS license, so you won’t have to purchase it separately from the Microsoft Store. This option, however, comes in handy for Windows 10 users whose devices can’t be upgraded to the new operating system.
