A new build is live for testing ahead of the launch

Microsoft has released a new preview build to users in the Release Preview channel, and Windows 11 testers can find it as update KB5014958.

Needless to say, the purpose of this cumulative update, which increases the OS build number to 22621.169, is to help Microsoft test a new series of improvements aimed at Windows 11 users before the company ships them out publicly.

And a quick look at the changelog provided by the software giant confirms Microsoft has been focused specifically on polishing the Windows experience, though overall, there’s little to be excited about if you’re a home user.

However, one fix that is worth being aware of concerns the Windows Sandbox, as Microsoft has managed to resolve a glitch that prevented Microsoft Edge from being available.

Otherwise, most of the changes are aimed at IT pros and enterprises.

“We fixed an issue that occurs when the Active Directory Lightweight Directory Service (AD LDS) resets the password for userProxy objects. When you try to reset someone else’s password and you are authenticated using a simple bind, the password reset fails. The error is like, “00000005: SvcErr: DSID-03380C23, problem 5003 (WILL_NOT_PERFORM), data 0,” the company explains.

Only available in the RP ring

There are also two improvements that are marked as new and which could also come in handy to system admins.

“We added Server Message Block (SMB) redirector (RDR) specific public File System Control (FSCTL) code FSCTL_LMR_QUERY_INFO. We added support for Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.3 in Windows client and server Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) implementations,” Microsoft further explains.

Keep in mind that all these fixes are currently available only for Windows Insiders in the Release Preview ring, and for the time being, there’s no ETA as to when they could go live on production devices running the stable version of the operating system.
