Changing battery of any Macbook is so expensive

How do you guy deal with it? I just order a new battery for old laptop with around $15 dollars. Macbook is around 10 times.

because it's a rare thing? i mean, i've used my 12" macbook 12 hours a day, every day, since 2016... and am still getting decent battery life.
but would be interesting to hear what others have to say. who's replaced their battery? apple is not cheap for any part replacements out of applecare...

Six months ago I changed the battery through an official Apple store for my 2015 Retina MacBook Pro because it wouldn't last more than an hour and it was five years old. I feel it was worth it because its such a good laptop but now the M2 MBA is out I'm considering selling this machine and putting the funds towards that.

I like to use big screen so Pro is too expensive.Six months ago I changed the battery through an official Apple store for my 2015 Retina MacBook Pro because it wouldn't last more than an hour and it was five years old. I feel it was worth it because its such a good laptop but now the M2 MBA is out I'm considering selling this machine and putting the funds towards that.

I (quite easily) replaced a failing battery on my 2010 17" MacBook Pro for about $40 via eBay. Took about 5 minutes.
On the other hand, I did just pay Apple $199 to replace the battery on my 2017 12" Retina MacBook.
I'd say the $199 'flat rate' battery replacement option is actually reasonable, especially considering how hard it is to DIY for most MacBooks, and relative to the screen/top case/logic board replacement part+labor charges you might have to swallow.

I’m down about 2 hours of total battery life on my *2015* MacBook Pro. Would I spend a measly $150 (ten times your investment) once every SEVEN years? Absolutely.

You won't be buying any new Macs then lol. They're not designed for that these days, sadly.I only buy laptop which has designed to have the battery easily switched lol

I’ve tried to discuss your thread in good faith, including why a $150 battery replacement seems reasonable to me (even though when the time comes I’ll just do it myself).May be after release of M2 Pro with new design

Going rate to change the battery yourself $40 to $50.
OWC carries replacement batteries.
Don't like replacing laptop batteries or the cost? Consider a Mac mini or desktop next time.

I had my 2016 MacBook 12” battery replaced by Apple after watching the ifixit video.
I‘m a handy person and quite capable of doing it myself however, seeing the complexity of the operation and the cost saving of about $100, I said to hell with it, let Apple do it.

through the magic of fantasy land and imaginary production scales and unrealistic physics, the economics of that translates perfectly into a low-volume form-specific battery pouch for his laptop. $15 gets him 33Wh.
his Toshiba laptop will run for about 2 hours before the battery leaks and destroys it. then he'll come back and brag about how cheap it is to buy another Toshiba Dynabook from fleabay compared to a Macbook Air.
