‘This Lens’ by SmugMug Tells the Stories of Passionate Photographers
SmugMug has launched a new inspiring campaign titled “This Lens” that celebrates the power of photography to challenge perspectives and change the world. It tells the stories of real-life photographers and their passionate pursuits.

The “do-it-all” photo platform was inspired to tell the stories of photographers after seeing photos of folk music icon Woody Guthrie, who famously played a guitar in the early 1940s that was emblazoned with the message “this machine kills fascists.”

Guthrie’s message and music inspired a generation, and SmugMug knows well the same transformative power photography has to sway hearts and minds today.
“In the hands of a passionate photographer, the camera has the power to change the way people think,” says SmugMug VP of Marketing Scott Kinzie. “We believe a powerful photograph can change public opinion, expose hidden stories, start a movement, or show the humanity of everyday life. A passionate photographer has the power to challenge how we see the world, and each other.”
“This Lens” has been launched with five stories from five talented photographers, each one focusing on a different subject with a different style.
Jay Ford is a photographer who takes us into protests with a boots-on-the-ground perspective. Andy Best is one who captures breathtaking landscapes while living a nomadic lifestyle. Tara Kerzhner is on a mission to capture awe-inspiring adventure photos and shots of rock climbers in the perfect light. Photographer Michal Perchardo uses portraiture to preserve his family’s legacy. Physician Sapna Reddy uses her photographic talent and interest to shoot nature photos and achieve work-life balance.
By turning the lens on the passions of a wide range of photographers across genres such as portraiture, landscapes, fine art, street, macro, astro, and more, SmugMug aims to broaden viewers’ perspectives as well as explore how different photographers find success and fulfillment in the work they shoot.
““This Lens” gives us an insider’s perspective on what drives a photographer to focus on a particular subject or story,” says Kinzie. “SmugMug believes in the emotional power of these stories and by sharing them we hope we can inspire others to pick up a camera and tell their story, too.”
