Microsoft Edge is getting lots of improvements lately, with the software giant working on multiple fronts to further refine the experience with its browser.

And just as expected, the company is also rolling out minor interface tweaks here and there, and as spotted by someone on reddit, the company’s latest focus appears to be the omnibox.

If you don’t like the rounded corners in Windows (or in computer software in general), you’d better stop reading here. Because as it turns out, Microsoft is giving up on the square design of Microsoft Edge, going instead for the same rounded look that’s also available in Windows 11 but also in Google Chrome.

And yes, the latest change introduced in Microsoft Edge Canary indeed appears to be inspired by Google’s work on Google Chrome, as the omnibox has been updated to sport a rounded look.

If you’ve used Google’s browser recently, it’s pretty clear Microsoft’s intention is to make the Edge address bar look like Chrome’s, but at first glance, users out there don’t seem to be the biggest fans of this change.

Currently available in Canary

At this point, the rounded omnibox is only available in Microsoft Edge Canary, but given this is the first stop for new ideas before they make their way to the production builds of the browser, there’s a good chance it’s all just a matter of time before the same change is promoted to Dev, Beta, and then stable builds.

So far, Microsoft has remained completely tight-lipped on any changes it might be planning on this side, but hopefully, the company will also include a setting, either in the configuration menu or hiding under a flag, to return to the original look.

If not, Microsoft Edge could end up disappointing lots of fans, especially as people seemed to love the original look of the browser.
