What Is the Newest Samsung Galaxy Phone?
If you want to get your hands on the latest Samsung Galaxy device, here are the most recent phones in each series.
If you're in the market for a new smartphone, you can't go wrong with a Samsung Galaxy device. They are reliable, well-made, and offer great performance. Why not treat yourself and go for the latest model?
Things can get a bit confusing, though. There are different product series within the Galaxy range, and Samsung constantly brings out new phones, so it can be hard to keep track of what the latest Samsung Galaxy phone is.
To help you out, we've put together this list of what the newest Samsung Galaxy phone is for each series.
Galaxy Z Fold
- Latest model: Galaxy Z Fold3
- Release date: August 2021
If you're looking to be on the cutting edge of phone technology, consider the Samsung Galaxy Z series. The Z Fold3 is a premium foldable device, with a 6.2" cover screen and 7.6" 120Hz main screen, which makes it perfect for multitasking productivity and consuming media like games and movies.
The Galaxy Z Fold3 has three 12MP cameras on the back, a 4MP under-display camera, and a 10MP cover camera—so you can capture from all angles in high quality. It's also built to last, with water resistance, a strong aluminum frame, and tough shatter-resistant glass.
In our review for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3, we said that this phone is the best foldable device on the market thanks to its appealing design, durable build, and enjoyable software experience. However, it suffers from subpar battery life and an eye-watering $1,799 price tag.
Galazy Z Flip
- Latest model: Galaxy Z Flip3
- Release date: August 2021
If you have a pining for the old-school flip phones, but don't want to miss out on the modern features you're used to, look no further than the Galaxy Z Flip3. It measures 4.2" when folded, with a 1.9" cover screen that's perfect to check and interact with notifications.
When unfolded, the Flip3 has a crisp and bright 6.7" HDR10+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. However, you can see and feel the crease in the middle of the screen, which is an unfortunate downside to the Galaxy Z Flip3.
On the back are two 12MP cameras, with a 10MP front camera. The foldable nature of the phone means that you can set it down to capture photos and videos, with a "dual preview" feature that lets people check their poses on the cover screen before you snap from the main display.
Galaxy S
- Latest model: Galaxy S22
- Release date: February 2022
The Galaxy S is Samsung's flagship series. If you want a regular slate phone (meaning it doesn't flip or fold) with the best hardware, the Samsung Galaxy S22 is for you. It comes in three variants: S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra.
The base variant of the S22 has a 6.1" 120Hz screen with flat sides, which uses Samsung's "Vision Booster" technology to help with outdoor viewing. The phone has 8GB RAM and 128/256GB internal storage. On the rear is a 50MP triple camera, while the front offers 10MP.
For many, the S22+ will be the best choice. It has a 6.6" display running a 2340 x 1080 resolution, with a 4500mAh battery (over the S22's 3700mAh) that supports 45W charging (over the S22's 25W).
The Galaxy S22 Ultra essentially replaces the now-discontinued Galaxy Note series. It has a 108MP camera, up to 12GB RAM and 1TB storage, a 6.8" screen with curved sides, and includes the S Pen stylus.
For the lowdown on all three variants, check our comparison of the S22 vs. S22+ vs. S22 Ultra.
Galaxy A
- Latest model: Galaxy A73
- Release date: March 2022
The Samsung Galaxy A series provides mid-range smartphones. It sits between the Galaxy S and Galaxy M—the perfect balance of power and price. Every phone gets four Android updates and five years of security updates, so you won't be left behind.
The latest and best model from the series is the Galaxy A73, which has a 6.7" screen running at 1080 x 2400 pixels and an in-screen fingerprint sensor. It's protected with Gorilla Glass 5 (though the back and sides are frosted plastic) and is water-resistant to an IP67 certification. The rear camera has a 108MP sensor, while the front camera is 32MP.
The A73 comes with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM, storage of either 128GB or 256GB (which you can expand up to 1TB with a microSD), and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chip. It also has a 5000mAh battery and 25W fast charging (though the phone doesn't come with a charging cable).
This all comes alongside useful Samsung software features like Samsung Knox to protect your data and Game Booster to enhance gaming performance. Plus it runs One UI 4, with all its excellent features and customization options.
Galaxy M
- Latest model: Galaxy M53
- Release date: April 2022
If you're desperate for a new smartphone but can't stretch your budget far, consider the Galaxy M series, which is only available to buy online. You're not necessarily skimping on quality, though—decent cameras and long-lasting batteries are the key components of the Galaxy M phones.
The latest and greatest is the Galaxy M53, a 5G-enabled phone with an octa-core processor, MediaTek Dimensity 900 chip, and minimum 6GB of RAM. Internal storage starts at 128GB, though you can expand this up to 1TB with a microSD card.
The selling features are the 6.7" 120Hz display with a 1080 x 2400 resolution (housed in a thin frame with rounded edges). The primary camera is 108MP on the rear and there's a 5000mAh battery to ensure longevity.
