Twitch is a live streaming platform that mainly focuses on video game streams. But many users are experiencing sound-related issues on Twitch. To be specific, Twitch fails to play sound during live streams.

So, if you are also encountering the same issue, here are all the solutions to fix the problem.

What Causes Sound Issues on Twitch?

Although there can be multiple reasons why Twitch fails to play sound during streams, below are some of the common culprits that can trigger the issue:

  1. If you have an outdated audio driver, it can cause audio issues when streaming media.
  2. If your internet properties aren't set up properly, they can cause problems with Twitch.
  3. Twitch will fail to play any audio if your speaker's audio enhancement feature is enabled.

Now that you know all the common reasons behind the problem; let's check out how you can get rid of them.

1. Relaunch Twitch and Your Browser

As with all things in tech, sometimes a reboot is all that's needed. As such, if Twitch isn't giving you audio, try closing the tab and re-opening it. If that doesn't work, close the browser entirely, or restart your PC.

2. Run the Windows Audio Troubleshooter

Windows comes with a built-in audio troubleshooter, with which you can resolve sound-related issues on the system. You can run the audio troubleshooter on Windows 11 by following the below steps:

  1. Open Settings using Win + I.
  2. Choose Troubleshoot under the System tab.
  3. Click on Other troubleshooters.
  4. Click on Run next to Playing Audio.
  5. The troubleshooting window will pop up and look for the problem.

Once the process is complete, reboot the system and check if Twitch is still having trouble.

3. Download the Latest Audio Driver Updates

Most audio-related issues in Windows result from outdated or corrupt audio drivers. As such, try updating the audio driver to resolve the problem. Here's how:

  1. Open Device Manager using one of the many ways to open Device Manager.
  2. Double-tap on Audio, inputs, and outputs.
  3. Right-click on the installed speaker and choose Update driver from the context menu.
    Audio Driver in Device Manager
  4. Click on Search automatically for drivers.

Windows will now look for and download the best available audio driver on the system. Reboot the system once the process is complete and check Twitch again.

If Windows struggles to find any new updates, note down the manufacturer of your audio device and search for drivers on its website.

4. Double-Check the Default Audio Device

Twitch can encounter audio problems if Windows is using the wrong audio device. As such, it's a good idea to double-check that your PC is streaming audio through the correct device or speaker. Here's how to check:

  1. Open Settings > Sound.
  2. Click on More sound settings.
  3. In the Playback tab, select the correct audio device and choose the Set default option.
  4. Click on Apply > OK to save the changes.

Next, open Twitch and check if the problem continues.

5. Clear the Browser's Cache Data

All the browsers store cache data to offer a faster and smoother user experience. But if the cache data gets corrupt for some reason, you will face different problems, including the one at hand.

You will have to clear the browser cache data to resolve the issue. Here's how to clear Google Chrome cache data.

  1. Launch Google Chrome, and click on three dots at the top right corner.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. In the left pane, choose Privacy and Security.
  4. Click on Clear browsing data.
  5. Change the Time range to All time.
  6. Checkmark Cache images and files and Cookies and other site data.
Google Chrome Clear Cache Data Option
  7. Click on Clear data.

That's it. Relaunch Chrome, visit Twitch and check for the issue.

Alternatively, if you use Microsoft Edge to access Twitch, check out our dedicated guide on how to clear cache data on Edge.

6. Change the Internet Properties Settings

If webpage sound settings are disabled within Windows 11, it will prevent Twitch from playing audio. Fortunately, all you need to do is re-enable it to get everything work again. Here's how.

  1. Open the Start Menu, type Internet Options, and press Enter.
  2. Switch to the Advanced tab.
  3. Checkmark Play sounds in webpage option under the Multimedia tab.
Internet Properties Play sound in webpages option
  4. Click on Apply > OK to save the made changes.

Open Twitch and check for the problem again.

7. Turn Off Windows 11's Audio Enhancement Feature

The next solution to try is turning off audio enhancement. You can do this by following these steps:

  1. Open Settings > Sound > More sound settings.
  2. In the Playback tab, right-click on the output device and choose Properties.
  3. Switch to the Advanced tab.
  4. Uncheck the Enable audio enhancement option.
    Speaker properties Audio Enhancement option
  5. Click on Apply > OK.

8. Update Your Browser

Google Chrome About page

Browser developers release new updates to fix minor bugs and enhance browser performance. And if your browser isn't playing audio on Twitch, it may be due to a bug in the browser that may have already been fixed.

As a solution, try checking if your browser has any pending updates and download them. Here's how to update Google Chrome.

  1. Open Google Chrome and click on the three dots at the top right corner.
  2. Choose Settings from the context menu.
  3. Select About Chrome from the left panel.
  4. Chrome will check for and download any available updates.

9. Reinstall Your Browser

Sometimes a browser's files get corrupted and cause Twitch audio issues. The easiest way to fix this is to uninstall and reinstall your browser. Fortunately, the uninstallation process is similar for all browsers.

Below are the steps to uninstall a browser in Windows 11:

  1. Visit your browser's official website and download its setup file. Don't run it yet, however; we're just downloading the file while we still have a browser to use.
  2. Once you have the browser setup file, open Control Panel.
  3. Click on Uninstall a program.
  4. Locate and right-click on your browser's name (for example, Google Chrome)and choose Uninstall.
  5. Now, run the installer you downloaded in step one and install your browser again.

Twitch's No Sound Issue, Fixed

Although Twitch is an excellent live streaming platform, it can run into issues from time to time. One such issue is no sound during streams. Fortunately, you can resolve this problem by trying the above solutions. But in the worst-case scenario, if none of the solutions were helpful, consider contacting the Twitch support Team.
