Noom is one of the most popular diet management tools available because it can help you change your mindset around food instead of just pushing you to cut calories. Unfortunately, Noom isn't free. After a short free trial, you have to start paying for a subscription.

Luckily, there are apps out there that offer similar features to Noom and are either free or more affordable! A few of these apps focus more on diet and weight management, while others help you alter your health mindset to be more positive.

1. MyFitnessPal

MyFitnessPal is currently one of the most popular fitness and weight management apps, so we'd be remiss not to mention it. While there is a premium subscription available, it's completely optional and there are a ton of awesome features in the free version.

In addition to tracking your daily calories and nutrients, you can also find recipe inspiration, stay active with workout routines, and customize goals. There are also quite a few free plans you can enable to help you get off to a good start, like the Simple Start Challenge or the Building Healthy Habits plan.

Although Lose It! gives you a recommended daily calorie and nutrient amounts, it's unique because it divides up the calories for you between breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. This is helpful if you struggle with pacing your meals throughout the day.

Then, you can add in workouts manually or automatically with Google Fit, Fitbit, Garmin, and other major fitness brands. There's also a community of other people you can reach out to if you need help along your fitness journey or motivation to continue.

Lose It! is free to download and use, but there is a paid premium subscription available if you love the app and want to enable more features. That said, it's much more affordable than Noom.

Healthi is an awesome app for anyone who wants to keep track of what they're eating, but not constantly see calorie amounts throughout the day. Instead of counting calories, Healthi counts bites, which the app pre-calculates for you. There are even foods that Healthi awards the title of zero bites and don't cost you any of your daily bite allotment.

You can access some recipes in the free version, but if you want to see all recipes and use Healthi's meal plans, you'll have to upgrade to the Pro version. There's also a handy health check feature in the free version that lets you track your intake of water, fruits and vegetable, dairy, lean protein, oil, whole grain, and multivitamins.

Fooducate is a free alternative to Noom that has a super simple user interface. When you've logged into the app and see the regular home screen, you'll see four main buttons to get around the app: the blue Health Tracker button, red Food Finder button, orange Community button, and green Diet Tips button.

In Health Tracker, you'll track your meals and snacks as you eat them throughout the day, using up your daily calorie allotment. You can track water intake and exercise here as well. The Food Finder button lets you scan a product's barcode or do a manual search for items already in the system, like fruits and veggies.

The Community button helps you connect with other individuals trying to start their health and fitness journies as well. Then, tapping on the Diet Tips button takes you to articles written by Fooducate on different topics, like what foods are in season and why certain foods are good for you.

MyPlate is a great alternative to Noom specifically for calorie counting. After entering your information, you'll get a daily calorie estimate for the entire day. Then, you use up those calories as you eat and enter meals and snacks throughout the day.

You can set specific daily goals for calories, calories burned, macronutrients, and micronutrients. Although you can't view macros for individual meals without a premium subscription, you can view your overall macros throughout the day.

Although you can enter what you ate in the notes section of a Mindful Eating Coach entry, the main focus of this app is on how you feel before and after eating. As the name of the app implies, this app hones in on the practice of mindful eating and developing a positive relationship with food.

There are in-depth lessons that teach you more about mindful eating, as well as common pitfalls or misconceptions around food. Every time you eat a meal or a snack throughout the day, you'll do a Before You Eat entry and an After You Eat entry to track your hunger levels and emotions throughout the eating process.

Eat Right Now is more of a mindful eating service that teaches you how to be more in tune with your body, hunger levels, and cravings. You can't track your meals, calories, or nutrients within this app, so if that's what you're looking for, go for one of the other apps on this list.

There are lessons within Eat Right Now that teach you about mindful eating, as well as tools you can use when you're stressed or having a craving for unhealthy food. This app educates you to view food as a necessary tool for energy instead of something bad to avoid.
