如果把 OpenSSL 包裝成 GUI 版本

在 Hacker News Daily 上看到這則，蠻有趣的嘗試，如果幫 OpenSSL 包裝成 GUI 版本的話，可能會長的樣子：「If OpenSSL were a GUI」，而 Hacker News 上對應的討論在「If OpenSSL were a GUI (smallstep.com)」這邊可以看到。

要注意的是這是 mock 出來的圖，而不是真的有人這樣幹了一個版本出來。主要是在帶出 OpenSSL 這個工具極度複雜的問題，另外也因此帶出 GUI application 的取捨問題，在 Hacker News 上的討論都有人提出來。

不過讓我吸引的點反而是 mock UI 的選擇上，看起來作者選了 Platinum 風格 (Mac OS 8 & Mac OS 9)，在維基百科的「Appearance Manager」這個頁面有提到：

The default look and feel of the Appearance Manager in Mac OS 8 and 9 is Platinum design language, which was intended to be the primary GUI for Copland.

是個讓人懷念的風格，而且意外的看起來反而讓 GUI 柔和不少，而且其實就功能性來說還蠻不錯的？

在 Docker 裡面跑 GUI 程式的點子

昨天的 Hacker News Daily 上看到「Running GUI apps within Docker containers」這篇文章，裡面想要把程式包到 Docker container 裡面，然後給了一些想法，另外在「Running GUI apps within Docker containers (trickster.dev)」這邊也有一些討論與想法可以看。 要注意的是，這邊主要是以 X11 類的環境為主 (所以應該還是 Linux 了)，而文章是用 Firefox 當例子，不過主要應該還是會拿來跑其他的東西... 看起來 GUI 的部份主要就是先用 VNC + x11vnc 打通到 host 的 X11 環境，這邊會需要 xhost 開授權讓 container 內的程式可以控制 X11 的環境 (話說他範例裡面直接開 xhost + 也真讚)。 後面提到的 noVNC…

DigitalOcean 全面漲價

清 RSS reader 的時候才翻到的，DigitalOcean 宣佈漲價：「New DigitalOcean Pricing」，在 Hacker News 上有對另外一篇「公告」也有些討論：「New $4 Droplet and updated pricing」、「DigitalOcean: New $4 Droplet and updated pricing (digitalocean.com)」。 如果就比例來說，VPS 裡漲最多的就是一般性的產品線 Basic Droplets 這組，直接漲了 20%，其他的翻了一下舊的 pricing 頁面，看起來大多在 20% 以下，除了 IPv4 的費用 (這個倒是知道發生什麼事情)。 VPS 的 $5/mo 1GB 競爭算是很激烈的，算是頂標，這次 DigitalOcean 主動漲價，沒意外應該是會有不少人開始規劃搬家？接下來應該看看另外兩家的動作... 看了一下另外兩家最近的情況，Linode 在二月被 Akamai 買走之後目前主要是推出了 Managed Databases 這個服務，看起來速度慢下來不少。(不過 Linode…
