An always-on display is a highlight of a new iOS 16 concept,.
Concept: Nicholas Ghigo

When Tim Cook and other Apple executive first show off iOS 16 in early June, there’s a good chance it’ll have much in common with a recently released artists’ concept. The new video shows some of the most-anticipated features, including an always-on screen and interactive widgets.

Watch the iOS 16 concept video now for a sneak peek at what might be coming soon to iPhone.

An iOS 16 concept you can rely on

Some concepts recommend unrealistic, “pie in the sky” features – they might as well include detecting tachyon emissions.

But not the latest creation by Nicholas Ghigo, which is solidly grounded in what’s possible. It wouldn’t be surprising if any or all of the features in this iOS 16 concept video appear in the upgrade.

“In this concept, I envisioned some cool functions and implementations I would like to see in the next gen iPhone OS,” says Ghigo. “New features like Always On, interactive widgets, new icon design, multiple timers, revised app switcher, new Control Center and much more would be highly appreciated by the community.”

Always-on screen, interactive widgets and more

The most notable suggestion is the always-on screen. This would be “borrowing” from Android models that have a lock screen that never turns off. Instead, it’s always displaying the time and other notifications.

He is also hoping for interactive Home screen widgets. These are currently information only, but many iPhone users want to be able to change tracks in Apple Music, create a calendar event, write a note, send a tweet, etc.

The iOS 16 concept includes customizable Lock screen controls, a feature iPhone users have requested for many years. These buttons are currently locked to Flashlight and Camera.

In addition, Ghigo would like to be able to put the Apple Library in the Dock, plus lockable applications, multiple timers, a Calulator app with history and more.

Interestingly, the artist doesn’t make any predictions about the rumored updates to the notification management system supposedly coming in the new version.

iOS 16 concepts won’t be needed any more after the new version is announced on June 6 during the WWDC22 opening keynote, along with macOS 13, iPadOS 16 and watchOS 9.
