You too can become a certified citizen developer now

Get to know about the path to become a certified citizen developer.

Well, its official now, the wait is over. Any business expert or in fact anyone can now become a certified citizen developer. You can now earn the official recognition for your new skills with SAP’s low-code/no-code tools. But before that, let us understand who is a citizen developer?

Who is a Citizen Developer?

A citizen developer is a business expert, who carries in depth knowledge about an activity or a business process which needs to be improved and who creates applications and automations using the visual, drag-and-drop software development tools without the need of writing even a single line of code.

Who can become a Citizen Developer?

The answer is very simple. Anyone can become a citizen developer.

If you are a business expert or working in the finance department carrying out your day-to-day activity following a set of repetitive tasks, then you can automate those processes using the Low-Code/No-Code tools and become a citizen developer. Even if you are a professional developer, still you can use the latest offering of Low-Code/No-Code tools and become a citizen developer too.

What is this certification about?

The certification verifies that you have the overall understanding and skills to build straightforward applications and automations, and to participate as a member of a team in a mentored role in more complex projects. Now that was the description, you will see for this certification on SAP Training website.

Let me make it simpler for you. With this certification, whatever your area of expertise be, you can start building applications without having to write code, just by using the simple drag and drop tools with a little bit of configuration. Well, that’s important too.

Let me put the excerpt from a post by Juergen Mueller, Chief Technology Officer and member of the Executive Board of SAP SE.

“Employees with no or little coding experience can automate workflows and build apps by using visual tools and services — such as drag-and-drop, point-and-click tools, and flow charts — instead of traditional lines of programming. They can experiment, prototype, and deliver apps or automations in weeks, and sometimes even within days, in collaboration with the IT department and by following its governance model. This includes giving guidance on the areas of focus, application design, security, data protection, version control, and systems integration.

Imagine what your company can achieve — and what we can achieve for our society together — if every employee turns into a developer.”

Seems to be interesting right?

What is SAP’s Low-Code/No-Code (LCNC) Offering?

Taking reference from the press release of Gartner (reference provided below).  By 2024, 80% of technology products and services will be built by those who are not technology professionals, according to Gartner, Inc.

*Gartner Press Release, “Gartner Says the Majority of Technology Products and Services Will Be Built by Professionals Outside of IT by 2024,” June 14, 2021.

With the latest announcement from SAP on a unified Low-Code/No-Code development experience on SAP BTP, which allows both professional and citizen developers to create new applications, enhance existing ones and automate complex tasks, now everyone can become a developer.

To work with SAP BTP, which typically required an experience with coding. But, with the introduction and availability of LCNC tooling from SAP, developing applications have now become much easier and faster.

LCNC applications are created with an intuitive graphical interface and simple to use visual drag-and-drop builder.
