For many of you, you probably feel like you spend too much time going through emails. So much of work comes down to reading, responding, and composing emails, so why waste more time with it than you need to be?

Firefox has a number of different add-ons that allow you to email better, faster, and less frequently. So, why not give them a go? Here are five of the best Firefox add-ons to change how you email.

1. Inbox When Ready for Gmail

First up on this list is Inbox When Ready for Gmail. Unlike most of the other entries on this list, Inbox When Ready only works with Gmail, so you’ll be unable to benefit if you’re using another email provider.

Inbox When Ready aims to make it so that you don’t need to check your inbox as often as you currently do. It does this in a number of different ways. For example, you can have Inbox When Ready automatically hide your emails. You can set this up between certain times, so you can focus on deep work.

This makes it so that you can still compose new emails and search for specific requests without getting bogged down in every new email that pops up.

You can also set an inbox budget so that you only have a certain number of times you can check them each day to focus on more important matters.

The add-on claims that this can help you to reclaim about an hour from your inbox every week, but even if you use it more or less than that, you’re likely to benefit from the tools Inbox When Ready can give you.

2. Firefox Relay

Next up on this list comes Firefox Relay. This is an official add-on from Mozilla, and so it had to make this list.

Firefox Relay has a relatively simple idea behind it. Effectively, all of our online accounts tend to come back to just a small handful of emails. You need to verify your account when you sign up, for example, so you use the same email you use for everything.

The problem with this, of course, is that if that one email account gets hacked, then all of a sudden, everything else is also at risk. Firefox Relay is an add-on which aims to rectify this issue.

It does this through a pretty straightforward and intuitive process. Firefox Relay allows you to quickly and easily generate email aliases you can use to sign up for just about anything. The aliases are completely random, and are stored by the add-on.

You can do a similar thing if you're using Gmail if you know how to add email aliases to Gmail, but if you're using another email provider or want more features, then Firefox Relay is the way to go.

If you’re worried about forgetting one of the aliases, you can easily check it from the extension page. You can check just how many emails it has forwarded from those aliases as well, including spam or unwanted emails.

You only have a limited number of aliases you can create initially, but if you find that one alias is receiving a lot of spam, you can simply block all messages from it or even delete the alias entirely.

There are premium features as well, so if you’re comfortable with paying you can do so to create unlimited aliases, create custom domain aliases, and more.

3. Mailvelope

If you’re worried about the privacy or security of your emails, then Mailvelope is a great little add-on which can help to calm your fears.

Mailvelope shores up these security concerns by adding missing encryption and decryption features to a wide range of different email providers. You can use these encryption features from within the email provider’s UI, and can even encrypt attachments from your hard drive.

This works by the add-on having you generate a key that is unique to you. You can then use it to effectively sign emails you send through the Mailvelope extension. Those that receive it will need to know your key once it’s sent to decrypt it, but the process is an easy one once you’ve set it up.

What’s cool about Mailvelope is all of the little things, however. The project is entirely open-source, so you can see exactly how it works under the hood. This means that if you’re worried about how the project might be using your data, you can easily see exactly what it’s doing with it.

On top of this, Mailvelope includes a bunch of different options to customize how it looks as you use it. This is apparently part of the security process, but the way it's chosen to go about it means that you can make sure that the add-on is working exactly how you want it to, even down to its appearance.

4. GMX MailCheck for Firefox

Next up, we have GMX MailCheck for Firefox. If you’re the type of person who has multiple email accounts with multiple different providers set up, or if you just frequently need to check them quickly, then this might be a good add-on for you.

GMX MailCheck is a relatively simple add-on that allows you to easily and simply access your emails. You sign in through the extension, and from there you read emails directly from the extension.

This means that you no longer have to sign in or open a new tab for each email that comes through. You’ll be notified by the add-on, and can even reply to emails directly from the add-on as well.

It’s important to note as well that though GMX is in the name of this add-on, it’s not the only email service that GMX MailCheck supports. There’s a wide range of services available here, including GMX, mail.com, and Gmail, amongst a whole host of others.

5. Email Tabs

Finally, we have Email Tabs. Email Tabs is a great Firefox add-on that’s perfect for any of you that end up with tons and tons of different tabs. Of course, the best Firefox add-ons for tab management are those dedicated to it.

The concept behind Email Tabs is very straightforward. If you’ve ever needed to save or share a bunch of tabs you have backed up, then this add-on makes it easy to do so.

With one click on the add-on, you’ll be able to generate an email with content from your open tabs. This can include links with or without screenshots included, as well as links with full articles to follow them.

You can send these emails to yourself or save them in your drafts to view them later and potentially offline, or you can share them with others who might find them interesting.
