New features, better battery life, aesthetic changes, failed, broken, or damaged device.

If too old, they eventually lose software update support.

I upgrade every year.

Eventually the small, incremental updates do add up over the generations. Determining if I wanted to upgrade from Series 4 to 7, I put this list together. The list was largely unnecessary, because outside of new headlining features that could be useful, for me the biggest reason to upgrade the watch is when battery life is no longer satisfactory. I'd always planned on a 3-4 year upgrade cycle.

Same reason you would upate a phone or other device, new features. One day we might even get better battery life.

I’ve only just upgraded my series 3 simply because it’s small and the storage is tiny. Other than those issues it still works as well as the day I bought it.

Upgraded to an SE Nike edition 44mm which although isn’t the latest and greatest it will serve me well for my needs for years to come.

you are entitled to YOUR opinion ...
you got to offer a little more than a statement in your OP and then poopooing answers if you want to be taken serious - do you even own an AW? which model? what do you use it for?

That’s hard to say considering we don’t know what the Apple Watch will bring in two, three or four years from now. It comes down to personal needs/wants. Something is worth only what someone is willing to pay.

Hypothetically, let’s say you’re a diabetic. You also just purchased an S7 a few months ago. Two years go by and the S9 is announced with a break through non invasive blood glucose monitoring sensor…

Do you upgrade or wait three more years? I’d venture to say the vast majority of diabetic Apple Watch owners would upgrade straight away in this case.

Probably just depends what you do honestly. I don’t care about any of the health stuff since it’s typically inaccurate or just a gimmick. Even as someone who lifts weights regularly and runs I could care less about the “fitness” features. When I had one, it was cellular, and mostly used it for listening to music while walking the dog or at the gym instead of have my bulky/expensive phone. Additionally, I have a few nice watches I prefer to wear at work as opposed to an ugly smart watch. Eventually got rid of it cause it was just another thing to charge and didn’t do enough.

On a side note, it always seems like out of shape people buy these as a new year’s resolution to exercise then never do it ha. Also has the worst resell value of any Apple product.

Yes, very inaccurate and especially gimmicky… Just one of numerous instances

Of course they have to add something…they even know that, yea I don’t think I would even try and resell which is another reason why to wait 4-5 years…give or throwaway

In your article the guy had chest pains. Any normal person would have gone to the doctor regardless of what the ECG/EKG on an Apple Watch said. Additionally, you need medical grade equipment to perform proper tests regardless. Do you really think people were dropping dead before the Apple Watch?

Never denied it wasn’t the best selling watch but go into a gym and count how many people that have an Apple Watch who aren’t reading a book on a stationary bike. It’s very small.

What seems like 95% of the people that review Apple Watches on YouTube don’t even talk about the fitness features because they don’t workout.

Your argument was that the health features are inaccurate and gimmicky. The article I posted says otherwise. The patient in the article was prompted by his Apple Watch to see a Doctor which was verified with medical grade equipment.

There are countless stories of people’s lives being saved by the Apple Watch. I wouldn’t exactly call it gimmicky. Not only the ECG feature but you also got fall detection where there’s no warning sign prior to a bad fall.

Furthermore, not everyone with heart problems experiences symptoms…

Agree with OP. Honestly, if I had to live without one apple product, I would probably choose the watch. It's a good product, but phone is so much more important and useful piece of hardware.

My series 4 model was just recently updated; still looks nice and runs nice, battery is about the same it was (I briefly charge it every morning). "Wake on wrist raise" detection is clunky and annoying from my experience though. "Always on" would be a cool feature to have, but def. not a reason enough to upgrade.
