OnePlus may be working on an Oppo Find N-styled foldable phone

Oppo Find N 5G foldable phone

After seeing the success of the Oppo Find N 5G foldable phone in China, Oppo's sister company, OnePlus, seems to be willing to try its luck in the foldable product category. As leaker Yogesh Brar has confirmed to Price Baba, a OnePlus foldable phone is in the works.

While a foldable phone from a brand like OnePlus speaks volumes of the potential of the form factor, what's particularly disappointing is that the rumored foldable phone will be a copy of the existing Oppo Find N 5G foldable phone, which is exclusive to the Chinese market.

BBK Electronics own both OnePlus and Oppo, and historically, Oppo and OnePlus flagship phones shared a lot of similarities in design and specifications. So, if what Brar has said is true, this may sound like history repeating itself.

However, OnePlus may have thought it through this time around before deciding just to copy the Find N 5G. OnePlus mimicking the design of Oppo Find N 5G can make sense if the brand brings the same compact and creaseless design of Find N to the International markets in the form of a OnePlus foldable phone. OnePlus enjoys better brand value than Oppo outside China, so this might be a classic case of companies trying to exploit customers' obsession with brands.

Unfortunately, the leaker hasn't shared any further details with regard to the purported OnePlus foldable phone, leaving us wanting more.

Meanwhile, we'll see several foldable phones going official this year. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4, Z Flip4, Vivo X Fold, and Xiaomi Mix Fold's successor are all lined up for a release in 2022. It'd be interesting to see whether OnePlus will participate in the competition this year.
