Apple preps power adapter with gasp! two USB-C ports

Apple prepping power adapter with (gasp!) two USB-C ports The Apple Dual USB-C Port 35W Power Adapter might look something like this.
Concept: Ed Hardy/Cult of Mac

Apple is reportedly about to release a power adapter with dual USB-C ports, not just one. It’s hardly cutting-edge — accessory makers have offered similar wall chargers for years. But it’s good news for those who prefer Apple-branded gear.

There’ve been rumors Apple is going to start using gallium nitride in its chargers. A dual-port one might be a sign this is finally happening.

Apple dual USB-C power adapter coming?

Apple briefly posted on its website a support document for a “Dual USB-C Port 35W Power Adapter,” according to 9to5Mac. The charger supposedly will come with foldable electrical prongs.

This not a product Apple offers now. In fact, all Cupertino’s wall chargers offer only a single USB-C port. Which isn’t very efficient.

Many third-party power adapters have at least two ports. Consider the Minix Neo P1, which packs a pair of USB-C ports, and a USB-A one too. And it’s smaller than Apple’s current single-port charger. (Bonus: It only costs $37.)

The gallium nitride advantage

No matter who makes them, power adapters that use gallium nitride instead of silicon are a lot smaller. The Neo P1 is only one example. These have been around for years.

Rumors have been floating around since 2020 that Apple is finally going to adopt GaN, and the Dual USB-C Port 35W Power Adapter might be the first.

At this point, it’s not known what Apple will charge for its dual-port power adapter. Or whether it plans to make versions that offer more than 35W. It currently offers single-port chargers that offer as much as 140W.
