Since its debut in November 2019, Disney+ has only been available in a handful of countries relative to its primary nemesis, Netflix. However, that may not be the case for long as the streaming service is making an attempt to catch up. Disney+ is expanding to 42 new countries, making the service available to a larger market than ever before.

Read on to learn the new countries Disney+ plans to launch in and everything else you need to know.

Disney+ Is Expanding to 42 New Countries

Disney+ is launching in 42 new countries and 11 territories across Africa, Europe, and West Asia starting in May 2022. This is a significant expansion for the streaming service, which has only been available in a handful of countries since its official launch.

The new countries set to enjoy Disney+ include Albania, Algeria, Andorra, Bahrain, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, and Kosovo.

Other countries with a summer 2022 launch include Kuwait, Latvia, Lebanon, Libya, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Malta, Montenegro, Morocco, North Macedonia, Oman, Palestine, Poland, Qatar, Romania, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Vatican City, and Yemen.

Disney+ will also be available in 11 territories, including Faroe Islands, French Polynesia, French Southern Territories, St. Pierre and Miquelon Overseas Collective, Åland Islands, Sint Maarten, Svalbard & Jan Mayen, British Indian Ocean Territory, Gibraltar, Pitcairn Islands, and St Helena.

The streaming service will first launch in South Africa on May 18, followed by the rest of the countries and territories in June. Subscription prices vary from country to country; see the Disney+ blog post covering the new launches for exact pricing. The 42 new countries and 11 territories are an addition to 53 countries across North America, Latin America, Asia-Pacific, and Europe where the service is already available. As of April 2022, Disney+ is available in the US, Canada, Austria, Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, and Luxembourg.

You can also access the service in Monaco, Norway, New Zealand, Netherlands, Portugal, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, the UK, and across Latin America. And lastly, Disney+ is also available in India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand under a slightly different branding (Disney+ Hotstar).

Here's an in-depth Netflix vs. Disney+ comparison in case you're wondering which streaming service is better than the other.

The Disney+ Expansion Will Help Surcharge Subscriber Growth

With a subscriber base of 118 million, according to its Q4 2021 earnings report, Disney+'s expansion to more territories will help the service increase its numbers immensely. In comparison, its biggest competitor Netflix had nearly 222 million subscribers at the end of Q4 2021.

Disney+ is a great subscription for every Disney fan, but it's also a great platform for a household that's looking for some quality content you can share with your whole family.
