比特币的供应量在周五突破了 1900 万。比特币通过名为工作量证明的运算生产比特币，它的供应上限为 2100万个。为了避免供应量过早达到上限，比特币的采矿回报每四年减半，第一次发生在 2012 年 11 月 28 日，第二次发生在 2016 年 7 月 10 日，第三次为 2020 年 5 月 12 日，第四次预计会在 2024 年 5 月 9 日发生。比特币第 1800 万个币是在 2019 年挖出的，最后的一个币则要到 2140 年。工作量证明的挖矿方法因为过于消耗能量而饱受非议。
