Introducing Our New Pregnancy Loss and Miscarriage Leave

We’re joining the #WeNeedMoreLeave movement.

Did you know an average of 1 in 4 pregnancies end in miscarriage globally, with most occurring in the first 12-20 weeks of gestation?

On top of that, the physical recovery alone can take 1-2 months, with many women saying the emotional recovery takes a lot longer.

In line with our company value, Go Further Together, we’re committed to providing time for our people experiencing pregnancy loss to recover and be around their loved ones. That’s why we’re supporting Kin Fertility’s #WeNeedMoreLeave movement with a new leave and support offering for pregnancy loss and miscarriage:

Early pregnancy loss (0 – 20 weeks)

  • If an employee or their partner experiences pregnancy loss during their pregnancy, they can take up to 4 weeks of paid leave (20 days) to spend time with loved ones and start the recovery process (regardless of their tenure).

Later pregnancy loss (20 weeks)

  • For employees with less than 6 months’ tenure: If an employee miscarries within 20 weeks of the expected date of birth, or in instances of stillbirth, they can take up to 8 weeks of paid leave (40 days) to spend time with loved ones and start the recovery process.
  • For employees with 6 months + tenure: If an employee miscarries within 20 weeks of the expected date of birth, or in instances of stillbirth, they’re entitled to our full 18 weeks of paid parental leave.

Additional Support

Psychological Support

Linktree will provide a psychological support stipend for employees to help process their loss.

Medical Support

Linktree will also provide a medical support stipend for employees so they can physically

Domestic Support

We’ll support our people with vouchers for cleaning and food services to ensure their family has time to focus on the important things throughout their leave.

Training for Line Managers

In a new whitepaper from Kin, they found ~45% of women didn’t even disclose their miscarriage to their employer in Australia. To help remove the stigma often associated with pregnancy loss, we’re hoping to create an environment of openness and trust between our people and their line managers. One way we’re doing this is by giving our managers the tools they need to effectively support team members going through tough times in their lives.

As part of a Manager series, we’ll bring in external experts to host training on how to support employees suffering from pregnancy loss or other difficult life events.

We’re proud to be part of the #WeNeedMoreLeave movement, and we hope to normalize the conversation around miscarriage and pregnancy loss. Interested in joining? Find out more here.
