We asked the Linktree team to share the best advice they’ve ever received.
There have been so many influential women throughout history who have inspired positive change not just through their actions, but also through their words (Rosa Parks, Greta Thunburg and Amanda Gorman, just to name a few!). In honor of Women’s History Month, we asked the women of Linktree to share the wise words of women in their lives that have had a lasting impact.

The best advice I ever received was “just because you think a certain way doesn’t mean someone else thinks the same way.” Although the advice was given to me in a time when I wasn’t seeing eye to eye with a close friend I’ve applied it to most of my life. It’s taught me to be open, empathetic, and communicative in both my personal and professional relationships and not to assume that everyone thinks and feels the same way.

During my first internship in college, I was pretty disappointed after I discovered that the company had specifically hired two males and two females for the internship. I felt like getting that internship wasn’t based on merit but on my gender. When I told this to my mum, she reminded me that women have been oppressed for thousands of years, and now, finally, if being a woman is going to be an advantage – then take it and run with it!

The best advice I have ever received was to “take a beat.” This came from a former colleague of mine who still remains a close friend. She noticed that I was moving at 100 miles a minute and didn’t stop to come up for air, which led to hiccups, mistakes, and frustration for both myself and my team. She took me into a private conference room, held my hand, made me close my eyes, and said “Stacey, breathe. Take a beat.” It was such a small sentiment that had such a big impact on me; so much so that it inspired me to tattoo a music note on my wrist. Every time I look down at my left hand, I remind myself to slow down, breathe deeply, listen to some music, and take a beat.

Alexis Fernandez always says “Let the trash take itself out.” It’s quite a funny line but it refers to bad people, bad jobs, and bad opportunities walking out on you. Instead of letting it upset you because you thought it was important, let go of it, as ultimately it’s good for you anyway.
