Microsoft says it'll honor Activision-Blizzard union, if formed
Ever since the mountain of scandals has embroiled Activision-Blizzard, many employees have tried to from a union at the company's Raven Software studio. While Activision-Blizzard is against it and has hired a firm known to break unionizing efforts, Microsoft says that it'll allow a union.
In a statement given to Axios, a Microsoft spokesperson said the following.
Microsoft will not stand in the way if Activision-Blizzard recognizes a union. Microsoft respects Activision Blizzard employees' right to choose whether to be represented by a labor organization and we will honor those decisions.
It's unclear where talks stand between Activision-Blizzard and the quality assurance workers trying to form a union at the moment. A few months ago, it looked like the National Labor Relations Board would have to get involved. This process could take months, if not longer.
Back in January 2022, Microsoft announced that it planned on acquiring Activision-Blizzard for around $70 billion. The deal is currently being reviewed by the United States government, but is expected to go through sometime in late 2022 or early 2023.
