5 Patreon Travel Content Creators You Should Already Be Following

July 25, 2019Jasmine Williams

Exploring the world by day. Creating content by night. For most people, the idea of making a living as a travel content creator is basically the ultimate life goal.

But of course, building a successful travel content channel is no easy feat. From dealing with unreliable WiFi connections to the hours spent shooting and editing photos and videos, it takes a lot of work to create all that FOMO-inducing content.

That’s why we wanted to give a shout-out to some of our fave travel content creators here on Patreon. If you’re a travel buff, these five channels should definitely be on your must-follow list.

1. Sailing La Vagabonde

Have you ever fantasized about sailing around the world? Well, Riley, Elayna and their newborn baby Lennon are an Australian family that is literally living that dream and sharing their adventures every week on YouTube.

The couple started out making simple vlogs for their friends and family back home but quickly built up an audience of followers from all over the world. Now, they have a thriving YouTube channel (they just passed the 1 million subscribers mark!) and hundreds of gorgeous videos of their life at sea. Their patrons get early access to their public videos, access to monthly live videos, exclusive updates, and more sweet perks.

If you’re a fan of amazing drone shots, epic mustaches, cute couples, and even cuter babies, then you’ll see why so many people are obsessed with Sailing La Vagabonde.

2. The Way Away

After 10 years of marriage, Josh and Ashley decided to sell everything they owned to travel around the world and vlog their journey on YouTube. And as the saying goes, the rest is history. Today, the couple has over 195,000 subscribers who have followed their adventures across South America, Australia and most recently, northern Europe.

From swimming in the Arctic Circle to exploring secret bars in Melbourne, The Way Away really bring you in on their journey and make you feel like you’re right there with them. And if you support them on Patreon, you can get access to Patron-only content, live streams, and their Patron Discord. Patrons can also help shape the content they create by voting on the types of food they will try and what cities to visit.

3. Fat Girls Traveling

In an ideal world, travel would be one-size-fits-all. Unfortunately, a quick scroll through Instagram tells an entirely different story. While frequent flyers come in all shapes, sizes, and shades, we don’t always see a lot of diversity online.

Fortunately, Annette Richmond is helping to make the world of travel more inclusive, one post at a time, with her online movement, Fat Girls Traveling. What started as an Instagram account curating gorgeous photos of plus-size women in far-off locales has now become a full-fledged movement that includes a blog, a Facebook community, and a body-positive summer retreat called Fat Camp. If you’re a FGT patron, you’ll get an invite to their private group, postcards from abroad, discount codes to popular brands, and more.

4. Indigo Traveller

New Zealand content creator Nick Fisher is on a mission to “show the world what the world is really like”. For him, that means traveling to more lesser-known countries and sharing his experiences on his YouTube and social media channels.

Since most of us won’t ever find ourselves on a beach in North Korea or in the slums of Venezuela, Nick’s videos and photos offer up-close-and-personal insight into some of the world’s most hard-to-visit places. Through Patreon, Nick has been able to fund his travels and video production as well as give his patrons access to Patreon-inclusive content.

5. Traveling Robert

For the past eight years, Robert Morales has been ‘living free in his RV’ and documenting his journey through vlogs and longer-form videos. From national parks to coastal highways, Robert’s stunning videos offer viewers a first-person point-of-view of life on the road, so it really feels like you’re riding alongside him. And his calming Antonia Banderas-esque voice-over doesn’t hurt either. While anybody can follow his journey on YouTube or Instagram, Patreon supporters get access to patron-only content, early access to content and the chance to connect with other patrons.

As you can see, there’s more to travel content than pretty pictures. Whether you’ve been itching to do a cross-country road-trip or set sail around the world, with every new post, these travel content creators show the world that their dreams aren’t so far fetched after all.
