A Better Way to Buy: How SAP and Amazon Business Work Together to Simplify B2B Purchasing
Learn how our latest integration delivers the consumer-simple shopping experience you expect from Amazon – customized to automate compliance with your purchasing policies.
As the result of our recent partnership, Amazon Business has become a powerful new source of supply for the Spot Buy capability in SAP Ariba procurement solutions. That means users of guided buying can now search for items and receive results from Amazon Business – along with other online stores, e-commerce providers, and direct sellers – in a single, seamless process.
The goal? To provide all users just what they need, and nothing more, in three quick steps:
- Search
- Select
- Submit
The PunchOut Transformation
While Amazon Business SKUs were previously available through the Level 1 PunchOut catalog in SAP Ariba buying solutions, the new technology integration uses Level 2 PunchOut to deliver the simple, streamlined shopping experience Amazon is known for.
What’s the difference between Level 1 and Level 2 PunchOut, you ask?
Level 1 PunchOut Catalogs
- Preapproved suppliers will have a logo in the PunchOut catalog section on the home
- The buyer clicks on a supplier’s logo and is authenticated into the supplier’s e-commerce storefront.
- They are taken to the storefront home page to search and browse products. Most e-procurement platforms support this type of PunchOut workflow.
- Once the user selects the items they want, they must punch back out to guided buying to create a shopping cart and complete the purchasing process.
Level 2 PunchOut Catalogs
- Level 2 PunchOut combines a PunchOut store with a CIF (catalog interchange format) catalog for SAP Ariba solutions.
- This simplifies and streamlines the SAP Ariba marketplace search, integrating catalog data directly into the platform interface and allowing products within the PunchOut catalog to become searchable.
- And when a user selects Amazon Business items for checkout, the shopping cart is instantly transferred for automatic processing within guided buying.
What does this mean for you and your users? Better search, enhanced functionality, and smoother checkout – all within your spending and compliance controls.
Let’s run through a sample purchase so you can see how it works. Click here to watch a 60-second demo.
Procurement guidelines are built into the process through intuitive displays and prompts that anyone can follow. This enables employees to quickly and easily buy goods from preferred suppliers with minimal support from your procurement teams.
