The build is live in the Dev channel after two weeks of wait
It’s been two long weeks for Windows Insiders in the Dev channel, but a new build is finally available, and at first glance, it looks like the wait was totally worth it.
This is because Microsoft’s new Windows 11 build 22557 comes with lots of goodies, including folders in the Start menu, live captions, an improved Focus experience, new touch gestures, and more.
Furthermore, this Windows 11 build also includes additional polishing for the overall experience, so despite being specifically aimed at insiders, it should pave the way for significant performance refinements in the long term.
Microsoft explains that it’s also changing the name of the branch that Dev builds are part of.
“Windows Insiders will notice that the name of the branch we are releasing builds from has changed to NI_RELEASE. The branch in which we release builds from to Insiders in the Dev Channel is irrelevant to the features and improvements included within them. Going forward we will no longer be noting when these branch changes occur,” the company explains.
This build isn’t available for ARM64 PCs, and Microsoft says it’s already working on releasing such an update in the coming weeks. No ETA has been provided though.
New known issues
Microsoft warns this build also comes with a series of new known issues, including for the folders in Start menu and the OOBE experience when installing Windows 11 Enterprise.
“When going through the device setup experience (OOBE) on the Enterprise edition, the network add screen will be skipped on the first attempt. As a workaround, when users see the “name your computer” option, please reboot and re-start OOBE. The network add screen will now appear as expected,” the company explains.
We’ll be providing a closer look at every new feature included in this build, so make sure you check out our Windows 11 coverage to check out the goodies available for insiders today.
