The company is already testing multiple prototypes, it seems
While Samsung and several other Android device manufacturers are betting big on foldable smartphones, Apple clearly isn’t in a rush to launch such a form factor.
People familiar with the matter have already revealed that Apple is indeed developing a foldable iPhone, but on the other hand, we’re getting all kinds of contradictory tidbits as to when this device could finally see the daylight.
While 2023 could the year to witness the debut of this innovative iPhone, there’s a chance Apple waits even longer, and according to a well-known iPhone tipster, there are several reasons for this.
First and foremost, Apple is already working around the clock on a foldable iPhone behind the closed doors, @dylandkt, who has a good track on Apple scoops, says. At this point, the company is actually testing multiple prototypes, though the whole thing is still in the early days and no final decision has been made.
So why isn’t Apple picking the best prototype and then release it globally?
The Cupertino-based tech giant isn’t sure the foldable smartphone is here to stay in the long term. In other words, the company just wants to wait a little bit longer and see if this form factor takes off or the market eventually drops, with customers returning to the traditional design for the familiar convenience.
Apple is carefully observing the market, the tipster says, and it’s improving upon the mistakes of the competitors. This means Apple’s foldable device will get right what others got wrong, though the timing is obviously playing a key role for the whole thing.
At some level, Apple believes the current models already on the market are more or less beta versions of the foldable form factor, so the company wants to see how this technology is adopted in the long term before it becomes fully committed to it with a foldable iPhone.
