Apple App Store to accept alternative payment systems in South Korea

Apple Apps

Back in September, South Korea passed a law that required app store operators to offer third-party payment systems. Now, Apple has come through with its plans to work out a solution with the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) by presenting its compliance plans. According to Yonhap News Agency, there’s no immediate date for when the new policy will come into effect nor what service fee will be charged via the new payment option.

Apple has a great deal of respect for Korea's laws and a strong history of collaboration with the country's talented app developers. We look forward to working with the KCC and our developer community on a solution that benefits our Korean users.

Our work will always be guided by keeping the App Store a safe and trusted place for our users to download the apps they love. - Apple official statement

Apple’s new payment options should offer a reduced service charge compared to the current 30% App Store tax on app sales and in-app purchases. The KCC already announced it plans to fine app store operators if they do not oblige the new laws by offering alternatives to their first-party in-app payment systems.
