The iPad mini has had a mighty upgrade with a larger display, 5G connectivity, and a robust A15 Bionic chip. Here's where to buy one ahead of Christmas.
If you missed out on Black Friday and Cyber Week sales on the iPad mini 6, don't worry! You still have a chance to pick up a solid saving on the latest iPad mini right now in Christmas sales.
In fact, you can save up to £20 from Amazon (see below)! Bear in mind, stock is going fast and you may not be able to have the tablet delivered to you by Christmas, but the wait may be worth it if you don't want to pay full price.
In a flurry of product launches at Apple's 14 September Keynote event, Apple not only announced the iPhone 13 series flagship phones, but also a new Apple Watch 7, iPad, and iPad mini (6th gen).
The mini 6 is perhaps one of the most exciting launches, given the last time Apple upgraded the iPad mini 6 was over two years ago (March 2019). As of 24 September, the newest iPad mini is now available to buy from Apple and a number of other retailers which we're detailing below.

Where to buy the new iPad mini (6th gen, 2021) on contract?
With 5G connectivity, you should be able to find the mini 6 from most contract providers:
Right now, US customers who buy the 5G iPad mini 6 from Apple can get a $200 pre-paid Mastercard when activating with T-Mobile/Sprint or a $200 e-gift card when activating with Verizon.

The iPad mini is available to Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi and Celluar configurations:
- iPad mini 6 with Wi-Fi (64GB) -£479/US$499
- iPad mini 6 with Wi-Fi (256GB) - £619/US$649
- iPad mini 6 with Wi-Fi + Cellular (64GB) - £619/US$649
- iPad mini 6 with Wi-Fi + Cellular (256GB) - £759/US$799
US customers can buy from Apple US and get $200 cashback when buying and activating the cellular version.
Release date: When did the new iPad mini 6 (2021) go on sale?
The iPad mini (6th gen) became available to buy directly from Apple on Friday 24 September.
What to expect from the iPad mini (2021, 6th gen)
The new iPad mini brings with it an incredible number of upgrades. For starters, it has an 8.3in Liquid Retina display – up from the 7.9in on the 5th generation iPad mini – along with thinner bezels.
Under the hood, a new A15 Bionic chip makes the mini 6 more powerful than the iPad Air (which features the A13). Equipped with the A15, the mini 6's 6-core CPU offers a 40% boost in performance while its 5-core GPU improves graphics speeds by 80%! Machine learning speeds get a boost too, now operating up to two times faster than its predecessor.
As for connectivity speed, the mini 6 packs 5G support, and a USB-C port for super-fast wired connectivity (up to 10x faster than the previous generation). The USB-C connection allows users flexibility to connect to other devices too, such as cameras, external storage and 4K display to improve productivity.
Other key improvements include 12Mp main and rear cameras with Center Stage support – a feature you may recognize from the iPad Pro. Center Stage dynamically tracks and centres subjects within the frame; this is helped with the addition of a new Ultra Wide front camera with a 122-degree viewing angle.
The mini 5 supports the 2nd generation Apple Pencil as well, which connects magnetically to the mini 6's body for both wireless charging and pairing. Dive into all the specifics of the new iPad mini in our separate coverage.
