Founder @ Verdoo

👋Hi, Product Hunters! I’m Mircea, founder of Verdoo. My team and I are super excited to introduce our platform to everyone here.

Today is Black Friday and many people (even though they care about the environment) are still ordering stuff like crazy, assuming buying one more item won’t damage our planet.

I know it will take time until everyone understands they have to buy less – and for brands to do their part as well. The good news is: in the meantime, Verdoo is here to reduce the harm.

🥜 In a nutshell: Sustainable Shopping. Made Simple. We want to be the solution to offset the CO2 generated by online shopping.

💡 How does it work? Long story short: every time you purchase an item from one of our partners, we’ll plant at least one tree. If you buy the latest iPhone or book a vacation through Verdoo, we’ll be able to plant a small forest 😉

You only need to install our browser extension and we’ll automatically add vouchers and special offers when you checkout. This way, you’ll be able to get a product at a special price and help our planet at the same time!

💰 Why do you offer discounts?

We gave this a lot of thought and decided to offer discounts so people stop feeling that they need to pay a premium to buy sustainably. It can also attract more people to install Verdoo, since they’ll realize there’s nothing to lose – and a lot to win, actually!

🌳 Why Trees?

The average carbon footprint for a person in the United States is 16 tons, the highest in the world, while a person in the EU has an average footprint of 8 tons. A typical tree can absorb around 21 kilograms of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year, and it's definitely doable to offset someone's CO2 for free using our product.

👨‍🌾 Who plants the trees & where?

We're working with the biggest worldwide NGO, Eden Reforestation. The trees get planted in the subtropical area, one of the most affected by deforestation. We do have plans to bring the impact closer to people in V2 of our product.

In the long run, we hope to help shoppers become more mindful when they make a purchase – only buying what they really need.

Let us know your feedback! We're very excited to have the chance to build this :)
