2.52 亿年前的二叠纪末生物大灭绝被认为是地质历史上发生的最严重的生物灭绝事件。已有的研究显示，二叠纪末生物大灭绝事件持续约 6 万年，导致 81% 的海洋生物物种和约89%的陆地生物物种先后灭绝。那么，二叠纪末生物大灭绝的导火索是什么？中科院南京地质古生物研究所和南京大学等多家单位合作开展研究发现，西伯利亚大规模基性火山喷发并非二叠纪末生物大灭绝的唯一推手，特提斯洋中和泛大陆周边的大陆岩浆弧酸性火山喷发导致的环境灾难远超以往的认识，可能是这次最大的生物灭绝事件的主要凶手之一。相关研究成果发表于《科学进展》期刊上。
