How To Install Firefox 72 on Ubuntu

Firefox 72 was released recently by Mozilla with more performance improvements, better battery life and more focus on users’ privacy. This is the latest version of the popular open-source browser available for installation on Windows, Linux, and macOS. Some of the outstanding features in this release are the new Firefox Privacy Protection Report and a secure password generation with Lockwise.

You can install Firefox on Ubuntu from APT repository or by manual download of .deb package and installing from it.

Install Firefox 72 on Ubuntu / Linux Mint

The latest version of Firefox browser – Firefox is available from Ubuntu / Linux mint updates repository.

Update APT index.

sudo apt-get update

Confirm that Firefox is available for installation.

$ sudo apt policy firefox
firefox:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 72.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.18.04.1
  Version table:
     72.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 500
        500 http://nova.clouds.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-updates/main amd64 Packages
        500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-security/main amd64 Packages
     59.0.2+build1-0ubuntu1 500
        500 http://nova.clouds.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/main amd64 Packages

To install Firefox on Ubuntu / Linux Mint Desktop OS, run the following command.

sudo apt install firefox

Confirm status to be installed for the version of Firefox we checked earlier.

$ sudo apt policy firefox
 firefox:
   Installed: 72.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.18.04.1
   Candidate: 72.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.18.04.1
   Version table:
  *** 72.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 500

You can then launch Firefox browser on your Ubuntu / Linux Mint machine and enjoy safe and faster browsing experience.
