Facebook’s family of products (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc.) give advertisers unmatched scale and our ad system gives them incredible efficiency. The Auction & Delivery team was built to explore new research opportunities to make leaps forward in the performance of our ads system. The team is both theoretical and practical, as we collaborate closely with the engineering team to generate hypotheses, prove them out with rapid prototyping, and get them built into production.
We’re in search of a talented manager with a proven track record for innovation to lead these efforts for Facebook. Combining strategic thinking and scientific expertise, the leader for this team will explore and prototype scientifically rigorous systems with novel approaches across the breadth of our advertising systems.
Applied Research Science Manager, Auction & Delivery Responsibilities
Hire and lead highly skilled research scientists, providing mentorship and career guidance to members of the team
Create structures, systems and organizations that allow research scientists to be most effective
Focus on long-term professional development of the team
Shepherd the team’s projects, ensuring high-quality communication across diverse leadership audiences, and identifying intermediate milestones while taking responsibility for the team’s long-term impact
Build cross-functional relationships to shape long-term roadmaps with a balance of scientific rigor and strategic considerations
Identify gaps and design solutions to improve Facebook’s products & systems
Foster innovation among the team
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of relevant experience in data science or research science
Proven track record of driving action based on data-driven insights, communicating complex concepts to broad audiences, and product or systems innovation, and strategic focus
Understanding of data analysis, probability, and machine learning
Interest in mentoring others and a joy in seeing their success
Preferred Qualifications
2+ years of experience in leading and developing scientific teams, including performance management
2+ years of experience with massive ads systems
