In a short video, AMD talked about its Zen architecture five years later and what to expect from its future products. In the video, the company's Director of Technical Marketing and Chief Marketing Officer also shed some light on next year's Ryzen chips.

The most interesting bit about the video is that they confirmed the shift to the AM5 platform, which will enable support for PCIe Gen 5 hardware and DDR5 memory. Of course, the AM5 will be a new socket design so the upcoming Ryzen chips won't play well with the current motherboards.

However, AMD said current cooling solutions will be compatible with the AM5 platform for easier upgrade.

New notebook processors in 2022 are also to be expected with special attention to power consumption. A new algorithm will monitor the ongoing workload and apply various CPU configurations to save on juice.

And along with the notebook CPUs, the company will introduce another line of Ryzen chips in early 2022 that will feature the new 3D V-Cache tech for an extra 15% boost in performance. Interestingly enough, those chips will be based on the AM4 platform.
