Responsibilities                  

Mainspring Energy’s distributed generation machine uses cutting edge IoT technologies to operate and we maintain a fleet of devices for development of next-generation features. We are looking for a developing-to-accomplished Linux computer expert to improve our lab and field systems.

• Adapt deployment and other system management scripts for a rapidly evolving R&D environment
• Help uncover root-causes for networked computer system issues that range from critical (blocking development on a lab generator) to annoying (why are there so many messages in syslog)
• Deploy, update, adapt, choose, construct Linux distributions for embedded edge devices
• Maintain critical security for energy platforms and systems
• Improve and automate processes, procedures and metrics to enable exponential scaling of systems-on-hand
• Investigate anomalies in system performance to identify hardware and software choke-points 

Qualifications                      

• Passionately troubleshot, triaged, and root-caused issues that were ambiguous - or even blurred the line - between computer hardware, OS (Linux), and software applications
• Comfortable reading and editing code for deploying software or managing computer systems
• Take a proactive approach to spotting problems, areas for improvement, and performance bottlenecks using modern tools to monitor, collate, and present data (e.g. Grafana, Prometheus, Chronograf, InfluxDB)
