LinkedIn is blocking the Chinese profiles of journalists and researchers over ‘prohibited content’ not approved by the government

LinkedIn is censoring profiles on its Chinese website of prominent journalists over “Prohibited content” that is considered offensive to the country’s ruling communist party.

“While we strongly support freedom of expression, we recognized when we launched that we would need to adhere to the requirements of the Chinese government in order to operate in China,” LinkedIn told affected users, who confirmed the authenticity of the email to Insider.

A LinkedIn spokesperson told Insider that the company “Respects the laws that apply to us, including adhering to Chinese government regulations for our localized version of LinkedIn in China. For members whose profile visibility is limited within China, their profiles are still visible across the rest of the globe where LinkedIn is available.”

Vedantu turns unicorn after a $100 Mn round led ABC World Asia

Edtech startup Vedantu is the latest to graduate to the coveted unicorn club after the company raised $100 million in a Series E round led by Singapore based ABC World Asia and participated by Coatue, Tiger Global, GGV Capital, Westbridge and others.

Vedantu is the 28th startup to achieve unicorn status in 2021 alone.

While the current shareholding structure of Vedantu is unknown, Accel was the biggest stakeholder in the company followed by Omidyar and Tiger after the completion of the Series D round.

That “One More Thing”

There is a dark time in WordPress development history, a lost year. Version 2.0 was released on December 31st, 2005, and version 2.1 came out on January 22nd, 2007.

What killed us was “One more thing.” We could have easily done three major releases that year if we had drawn a line in the sand, said “Finished,” and shipped the darn thing.

The problem is that the longer it’s been since your last release the more pressure and anticipation there is, so you’re more likely to try to slip in just one more thing or a fix that will make a feature really shine.

It’s even worse because development doesn’t happen in a vacuum – if you have a halfway decent idea, you can be sure that there are two or three teams somewhere in the world that independently came up with it and are working on the same thing, or something you haven’t even imagined that disrupts the market you’re working in.
